Superior Manufacturing Group[edit]

Superior Manufacturing Group (SMG) was established in 1948 by Charles J. Wood. It began with a small manufacturing and repair shop for rubber entrance mats and has grown into a leading manufacturer of floor matting products worldwide. Right from the start Superior Manufacturing Group introduced and developed the brand NOTRAX ®. Under this brand SMG has developed in the last 60 years many different kind mats such as entrance dust control matting, ergonomic anti-fatigue and safety matting, floor matting for food processing and foodservice and logo matting. SMG has manufacturing facilities in Chicago, Ill., Calhoun Georgia and Mosell Mississippi as well as a European facility in Barendrecht, the Netherlands. From these facilities all their products are produced and distributed worldwide. The company was founded in Chicago and still maintains its headquarters there.

History[edit]

1948: founding of Superior Manufacturing Group Inc.

1980: opening of manufacturing facility in Calhoun (Georgia). 15,000 m2 (square foot) plant where dust control mats (NOTRAX ®) are produced. This division is ISO 9001 certified

1981: opening of vinyl manufacturing facility

1992: relocation of Moselle plant into new facility to Mississippi (Moselle). 14,000 m2 plant is responsible for SMG’s vinyl anti-fatigue matting (NOTRAX ®). This location is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified.

1992: Takeover of WearProof Mat Co. in Chicago. This company was a pioneer in the technology of continuous length rubber matting with 70 years of experience.

2000: founding of Superior Manufacturing Group – Europe B.V. Barendrecht the Netherlands of 6,000 m2. Facility to service the European markets.

2001: Takeover of SMG’s oldest and strongest competitor, Akro Corporation of Zanesville. This acquisition brought SMG a full product line, patents, trademarks, expertise and more than 50 years of experience.

2007: Takeover of the food service division of Teknor Apex and renamed it into NOTRAX ® Food Service Matting Division. This division is located in Providence, Rhode Island.

2010: Introdruction of RedStop, a uniquely engineered technology that virtually eliminates the slipping and sliding of all Notrax® brand laminated floor mats.
