Lynn Schockmel (born 3 October, 1983) is a make-up artist and trompe-l'œil body painter based in Luxembourg.[1][2] Her art style is influenced by nature and contemporary pop culture including propensity to transform multiple human bodies into a variety of optical illusion.[3][4] Schockmel has received multiple recognitions for her work including first prizes at Face and Bodypainting Festival 2015 in Gibraltar and Estetika 2014 in Brussels.[5][2] Her works have been featured in the World Bodypainting Festival every year since 2011.[6] Schockmel's body paintings have appeared on media including L'essentiel and Luxemburger Wort.[3]

Career[edit]

Schockmel was born in 1983, in Luxembourg. She started painting at an early age of 14 in 1997. In 2003, Schockmel joined Croix-Rouge française as a volunteer where she created her first face painting.[7] In 2009, she started her career as a professional body painter at the World Bodypainting Festival in Seeboden, Austria where she painted Louisiana-based actress, Teri Wyble at Yolanda Bartram's workshop.[8] In early 2010, Schockmel participated in Festival Of Colours 2010 in Cologne where she was ranked 8th. Later in 2010, her bodypaintings were displayed at International Bodypainting Festival Germany which was held in Bingen am Rhein.[9] In 2011, Schockmel participated in World Bodypainting Festival for the first time in Pörtschach am Wörthersee where her work was ranked 37th. Schockmel's bodypaintings were featured during Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival in 2012 as well as in 2013. She won the first prize in 2012 while she was placed 4th in 2013.[10] Later in 2013, Schockmel was invited to Swiss Bodypainting Art Festival which was held in Lugano where she was ranked 14th.[11]

In 2014, Schockmel's body art was featured in Estetika, a beauty expo held every year in Brussels, where she was awarded with the first prize.[2] Subsequently, in 2015, Schockmel received first prize at Face and Bodypainting Festival, organized by Hamish Dalmedo, in Gibraltar.[5] In 2016, Schockmel collaborated with German film director Dieter Berner for the film Egon Schiele: Death and the Maiden and worked alongside Béatrice Stephany, the head make-up artist.[12] The film was awarded with Luxembourg Film Awards 2018 for Best Costume Design. In late 2016, Schockmel worked with L’Association Luxembourgeoise des patients à douleurs chroniques (ALPADOC), the Luxembourg Association of chronic pain patients, where she painted bodies of members who wished to express their pain and emotions through art. The project was covered by multiple news agencies around Europe.[13] Schockmel has been invited to all Anno 1900 - Steampunk Convention Luxembourg, an annual event held at the Minett Park Fond-de-Gras, since their inception in 2011.[14] Anno 1900 - Steampunk Convention Luxembourg is dedicated to arts focused on steampunk genre.[15][16] Schockmel's arts at the event have appeared on major media including Lëtzebuerger Journal, RTL 5 and Le Quotidien.[14][17]

Schockmel is married to Marco Mazzini, a Luxembourg based photographer. She is also an educator.[18]
