You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Yolanda gampp requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Answers To Questions[edit]

1. After talking to a few Wikipedians and doing some research, it seems as though Youtubers have a harder time obtaining a Wikipedia page and/or higher quality pages than other “traditional” professions. Do you agree with this assessment? If so, why do you think this is?

  • Many YouTubers don't get a lot of notoriety outside the YouTube fan base. Except for those who hit it big and gain hundreds of thousands of followers or millions. Being notable on Wikipedia means having a fair amount of press coverage from reliable sources, such as say The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, BBC, most any mainstream, professional news source, newspaper, magazine, or well known and popular websites, there are many examples. But there are enough YouTubers of merit and notoriety that Wikipedia felt it was worth putting together a YouTube personality infobox: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_YouTube_personality.

2. What could Wikipedia change to better accommodate notable figures from newer platforms like Youtube? What could Youtube do to better live up to Wikipedia standards?

  • I think the fact that Wikipedia has acknowledged that certain popular YouTubers are in fact notable and worthy of inclusion on an online encyclopedia shows that Wikipedia is ahead of curve on this issue. In the past I once heard one radio interviewer in particular who was very condescending to a popular YouTuber in the early days of the site named Brooke Brodack or Brookers. The man interviewing her seemed pretty dismissive and maybe even a little jealous that some young girl who became more famous than he ever was or maybe would be by just posting comical YouTube videos from her bedroom. His mentality, perhaps, was that he had worked hard to get where he was in radio in the old mainstream media and she didn't have to work hard to become popular or famous on this new technology call YouTube, which of course is not true, the popular YouTubers post new work all the time, that's how you stand out from the crowd, relentlessly posting new content, new content and more new content.

3. If you could change the guidelines on Notability in any way, what changes would you make and why? If not, why do you think they’re stable enough that future societal progression could still be covered equally?

  • The rules of Wikipedia should be changed so it doesn't just take 50 people on the site to deem that a major publication like The Daily Mail newspaper is somehow no longer considered "a reliable source" simply because some Wikipedians don't like the politics of The Daily Mail. Wikipedia should be about being neutral and coming at a subject with fairness even if you find the politics or subject matter of a certain person or thing in a Wikipedia article distasteful. Leave your personal biases aside when editing Wikipedia. Which is difficult for people to do, be they left wing, right wing or independent. Neptune's Trident (talk) 17:49, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Youtube Response[edit]

1: No, I don't agree with that. YouTube is till fairly a niche thing, at least in the context of the general pop culture. I think the barrier to articles is largely where it needs to be in that if it isn't talked about outside of YouTube, then it isn't really notable. 2: Wikipedia should do nothing. Creating a special class (in a sense) for YouTube personalities would go against the point. As for YouTube, anything it can do to get some more mainstream attention would work. 3: Again, no changes are needed. It keeps the barrier fair for everyone and prevents the wiki from being flooded.
