After this beatdown of tags, it's only fair to thank you for your contributions. I was particularily impressed at how good the Zerg image looked in its article. The image use policy is a real dick, and I gather that it's a painfully necessary one, though I'm not in the habit of examining dicks closely. --Kizor 23:05, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your image uploads, fair use of copyrighted materials and Wikipedia policy.

You have recently uploaded a number of images relating to StarCraft. A number of these have fallen foul of Wikipedia policy and fair use. I'll run few a through:
1. Image:StarcraftII_05.JPG is in breach of fair use. In the license template, it states that:

"It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots for identification and critical commentary on the computer or video game in question or the copyrighted character(s) or item(s) depicted on the screenshot in question"

You are required to add a rationale for why this image complies with this, to which you have stated "Provides more illustrations for the article". This is invalid in fair use, copyrighted images cannot be used for decorative purposes, simply there for the sake of it. Plus it is of a very high resolution, which is also in breach of fair use. On top of that there is already an image in use that whilst an earlier piece of art provides more detail and is better suited to the task of identifying the character. Therefore, Image:StarcraftII_05.JPG has been removed and flagged for speedy deletion.
2. Image:StarcraftII 01.JPG is equally in breach of fair use, as again it is not of a web resolution, nor is its rationale valid as again it is being used for decorative purposes and there is already an appropriate image in the article. At this stage, more gameplay images are not necessary, especially if they do the same task as another image already present. Again, the image has been removed and flagged for speedy deletion.
3. Image:StarcraftII 04.JPG is of too high a resolution, regardless of how blurred the image is. It needs to be much smaller. Again, it's rationale is invalid, stating that it is used for decorative purposes, but this image can be useful and as such I've fixed the rationale to reflect this.

The names of the images also present an issue: Wikipedia policy states they should be descriptive of the images involved rather than generic names. For instance, "Hyperion bridge (StarCraft)" would be a much better name for Image:StarcraftII 04.JPG, as it it shows what is in the image and also shows that it is a StarCraft related image. I'll deal with this myself later today though, so you just have to bare that in mind for the future.
