Status of RSS at IETF[edit]

Hello Calestyo. I noticed your recent edit to the RSS article. Can you say more about the registration being stopped? The IETF document you link to is dated 2001, so it can't tell us anything about whether the registration process was stopped in 2006. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 03:05, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Unfortunately not. As you can see from the document, it has expired 2002 and no new ID was filed (and no final RFC ever made it). The type also does not appear in the official registry. I guess it's best if you ask the authors of the ID, whether they've stopped it. --Cálestyo (talk) 17:47, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If we have no sourced information about the current status of the registration of RSS, it would be better to remove that statement from the article. Wikipedia is not expected to know everything. But what we do provide ought to be sourced. EdJohnston (talk) 20:46, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well we can do so (and we actually should). However,... there are people (e.g. Debian's /etc/mime.types file) who already uses the _unofficial_ media type. --Cálestyo (talk) 11:36, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
