Welcome/vandalism tag
[edit]I write generally to compliment you on your anti-vandalism vigilence, which I have often had occasion to observe, and, more specifically, for your use of the bv tag, at, inter al, User talk:SuperTrooper. For some reason, I was unaware of the existence of the tag, and, as such, when viewing vandalism from new registered users, have often appended the "welcome" and "test 2" templates to user pages at the same time, about which I've always felt a little silly. I'm glad to see there's a template that combines the sentiments and am glad to see your decorous and considered user of it. Cordially, Joe 21:13, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

May need arbitration
[edit]The Atul Chitnis article mess continues. You may want to check the talk page of this article - an edit war is brewing, and I am going to have to call for arbitration if this persists. "Freedom" does not mean "Liberty to slander". If you feel that there is something that has to be done, please let me know. Thanks. -- Achitnis 17:58, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for your quick response. I feel really awkward about this whole matter, which is clearly a strictly personal, non-WP related issue. I saw your note on the talk page, and I guess we will have to wait for a response from the other side, since I have already said a lot on the matter. Let's hope that they see your point. I have also updated my talk page at the top, in case it is needed. Thanks again! -- Achitnis 21:22, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit]About that IP called 207.235.223.32...
[edit]I congratulate your efforts in fighting vandalism! You know that this IP has repeatedly vandalized WP several times including being blocked, right? Since you're an admin of WP, you can quickly revert edits made by vandals and block users or IPs that vandalize WP repeatedly. I would like to know what action we should take against this vandal but I heard that legitimate edits have occasionally come from this IP by looking at the IP's talk page. There's even a template at the top of the talk page stating that the IP will be blocked without further warning if he/she vandalizes a page on WP. What is the most appropriate action to take? Block the IP the moment he/she vandalizes a page? You can reply on my talk page if you wish but carefully read the previous entry. Remember that this IP might be a "severe vandalizer" and not the "occasional/rare vandalizer" as stated in the previous entry. Thank you. --Bruin rrss23 10:39, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Maryland
[edit]I have a newbie who does not understand sourcing or NPOV policies on wikipedia. She is User:Joan53. She has been consistently reverting good faith edits on the Maryland wikipedia page....note her contributions and subsequent arguing on other entries. She needs to understand the rules and also calm down. Her agenda is obvious and agendas/bias of any kind has no place here. She does not deal in verifiable info or facts in general. WillC 02:47, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- The yawn was for effect....but she _did_ say she was going to lock the Maryland site....I'll guide her as best I can, but I hope admins step in when she crosses the line. I have to think after 4000 edits here as opposed to her 1 week here I know what belongs...like verified info and NPOV info! She is just reverting anything that does not suit her right now...throwing out threats left and right....and that's not good form. WillC 22:28, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey, Canderson7, thank you so much for your vote and comments in my RfA, which passed with an overwhelming consensus of 95/2/2. I was very surprised and flattered that the community has entrusted me with these lovely new toys. I ripped open the box and started playing with them as soon as I got them, and I've already had the pleasure of deleting random nonsense/attacks/copyvios tonight. If I ever do anything wrong, or can help in some way, please feel free to drop me a line on my talk page, and I will do my best to correct my mistake, or whatever... Now, to that bottle of wine waiting for me... |

Tree
[edit]Does a Contribution Tree in wikipedia/wikimedia actually work? Look at this: [2] This is the link that i got off up the "popups" program i loaded.
This says that i've listed only 174 edits... But thats not even my complaint yet. Click on "categories", where it says "5". It says that i've made 5 contributions to a Korean Baseball Category? Which I haven't, but don't take my word for it. Click the link to it off the page and look at its history there. No slasher600. So what am I to do? Is this releasing faulty information? If you dont like my style of writing or you have some personal adgenda involving hdg. If you were a resident of hdg you would know that the info is both relevent , important, and accurate...as per the record...and is very varifiebla. The only bias shown was you removal and un knowing comments. Please refrain from any other vandilism of the article. This article shows many views of hdg and is not the home page for the same. others are allowed to contribute in similar ways as long as they dont vandilize my writings by alteration or deletion (reverting). Other persons are allowed to express their view in the article in general and i would have to respect it. hdg vandilism you have vandilized the hdg artical
please note the followinf from the guidelines
Wikipedia has a set of policies identifying types of information appropriate for inclusion. These policies often are cited in disputes over whether particular content should be added, revised, transferred to a sister project, or removed. One of Wikipedia's core policies is that articles must be written from a "neutral point of view", presenting all note-worthy perspectives on an issue along with the evidence supporting them. The project also forbids the use of original research. Wikipedia articles do not attempt to determine an objective truth on their subjects, but rather to describe them impartially from all significant viewpoints. Following the introduction of a more user friendly citation functionality, since early 2006, articles increasingly include an extensive reference section to support the information presented in the article and to allow verification of the article.
this vandilism is improper...if you have a problem with a line item you are supposed to contact me...not revert it in its entirety. --eskimo 00:24, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Experimentation
[edit]Canderson7,
Thank you for reading! With the Orient's humble circulation and our Web site's relatively modest traffic volume, it is always a welcome surprise to hear feedback from unusual sources.
My experiment with creating and editing Wikipedia pages was, like most of my research-related visits to the site, educational. More than anything, I was impressed with the alacrity with which vandalism and irrelevant content are removed from the Wikipedia, which is a credit to watchdogs like yourself.
My activity on the site this week was, for the most part, dictated by my intentions for Friday's column. I recognize that it was somewhat juvenile and probably annoying to you and your Wiki-colleagues, and for that I apologize. I thought it important, however, for both me and my readers to know about how Wikipedia content is regulated in more detail. The Wikipedia is a matter of a great deal of debate. Many people don't trust it simply because they believe that loons like me can log on and "vandalize" the site, as I attempted to do. The fact that its policing mechanisms identified my changes and eliminated them so quickly has vaulted my trust of the Wikipedia's content to a higher level. I would not be surprised if many of my readers felt the same way, though that was not the central focus of the column.
I am not sure whether or not I will continue editing or creating content, but I hope you understand that I do not represent any further threat to the integrity of the Wikipedia.
Best

Question about blocking
[edit]Earlier today I listed the IP vandal 66.99.49.36 to be blocked for his continuous vandalism edits. You did not block him citing that he did not have a final warning. I saw several final warning templates on the talk page, is one more required the day of the most recent vandalism? Just want to know for the future how I should exactly warn them. --Nehrams2020 23:34, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Dear Cleanup Taskforce member,
I noticed that you've listed yourself as a member who's interested in copy-editing. I'm a member of the League of Copyeditors, a project dedicated to managing the sizable backlog of articles needing a copy-edit. We're always looking for new members, and you'd make a great addition to the project! We've started a participation drive for the remainder of February. If you're interested, you can help clear the backlog by adopting the following goals each week:
- Select an article to copy-edit from the backlog. After your copy-edit, list the article in the ready for final proofread section.
- Select a different article to proofread from the ready for final proofread section.
Thanks, and happy editing! BuddingJournalist 07:38, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
