Spelling on User Talk pages

There's probably no real need to correct people's spelling when they make typos on User Talk pages - at least, not when the meaning is still clear. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 08:34, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

I run a script that automatically corrects it. I don't really go out of my way. Doesn't hurt right? Just cleans things up. I don't pro-actively look for it though. Anyways, thanks for your concern. Carter | Talk to me 08:36, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Ah, cool. I thought that might've been the case (the script), since your contribs were pointing either to a script or a seriously heroic job on the Recent Changes list. No probs at all from my end. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 08:44, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. If you look at a list of my contribs, it's pretty apparent. Anyways, happy editing! Carter | Talk to me 08:46, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Your AIV report

Hi there, thanks for being persistent and relisting the school to be blocked. I originally deemed it unnecessary to block it but have subsequently relented and given them a schoolblock. Hope that alleviates your concerns! Good work in the reporting, by the way, keep it up! The Rambling Man 12:12, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. How does a school block work? Carter | Talk to me 12:26, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Ents Ref Desk reverting

Erm... why? --Dweller 13:08, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

My mistake. Script flagged it. I apologize. Carter | Talk to me 13:10, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
OK. No problem. --Dweller 13:13, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Could you not edit others' comments on talk pages, please? -Jéské(v^_^v) 05:07, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Stats

We leave them alone, as from the start of a RfA there's not much difference. So we save the fuss and leave that version up. Also I suggest you withdraw your RfA, you can do that why striking your nomination and stating that you withdraw. I hope you continue and you can reapply later. Phgao 09:02, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Have a look here [1]. I'm not sure personally how to properly close a RfA but you can withdraw yourself and wait until a 'Crat comes to close it. Phgao 09:11, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Good work! I actually closed it after you withdrew. And great to see you put on the edit summary thing. Phgao 09:28, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
No problems! I'll enjoy seeing you around. Ciao for now! Phgao 10:10, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Looking forward to your next RfA

Carter, sry that your first try wasn't an initial success. Don't let this discourage you, you're on the right track, all that is needed is more experience. It would be helpful for the next nom if you would engage in one or several controversial articles, participating in the discussion and the problem solving process. Many of us editors are concerned about making someone admin who wouldn't show proper judgment in using the tools, and experience with handling 'difficult cases' is the best way to overcome these concerns. I'm sure you have the potential to make it. Good luck! Gray62 12:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you so very much! I'm looking forward to it also! If you look at my contribs for just today and yesterday you'll see I'm already trying! Where is the best place to find the kind of articles you were referring to? I appreciate it once again. Carter | Talk to me 12:19, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I am not an admin, so talk my advice with a grain of salt, but imho a good place to look for controversial articles is WP:RfC. Lots of hotly debated articles there, listed by topics, that need some third party input in discussions. But be careful when you engage in debate with editors that are already in some kind of war over an article, much diplomacy needed there. And stay on the safe side by sticking to the rules (NPOV, no orginal research, etc...). Good luck! Gray62 12:46, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Thank you very much, and can't wait till my next one! Happy editing! Carter | Talk to me 12:48, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Edits to Moped

Hey there. I see you got an anon bagged for 3RR over edits on this article; I wanted to point out that the version you were reverting to was actually vandalized and had an unsourced (and rather defamatory) claim that the anon was removing and replacing with its own vandalism. Another anon was edit-warring to keep that in the article last night. Just thought I'd mention it - I was doing some reverting last night to get rid of the apparently grudge-inspired junk. Cheers. Welcome some feedback

Hello, my name is Isucheme and I am currently writing my first Wikipedia article on the Churchill-Bernstein Equation. The equation is used to find an average (convection) heat transfer coefficient to use in Newton’s Law of cooling for a cylinder in cross flow, and the mass transfer analogy, as described in the article, can be employed to find a mass transfer coefficient. I would appreciate any feed back you can give me on my article so I can make it a great article. Thank you. Isucheme 20:14, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Quick Tip :D

Me again! I see you sent a vandal to AIV, we usually only do that if they have had more than 4 recent (last 10 or so min) vandalisms; even though users may have been warned previously or yesterday, we assume good faith, and start from warning 1 again. Also give 4 warns before reporting. Good work! Phgao 07:39, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Um...

Dude wtf? It was just a joke, and I did answer his puzzle! Did u not see the "nah just kidding" bit. I know the guy and it was just a joke! jeez! 123.255.54.139 09:20, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Don't care. You need to learn what to say and not to say, and WHERE to say it. Don't edit other peoples user pages. Carter | Talk to me 10:05, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh oh.. you don't care? how is that my problem you wanna be admin? Did he complain? no! stop stickng your nose into other peoples business! Jeez... 123.255.54.161 07:19, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Both of your edits were reverted. I'll stick my nose where it suits me and the WP community. Yeah, I wanna be an admin. Big deal. Carter | Talk to me 07:39, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah by you! Also sorry I didnt realise that my IP had changed. As for the alleged threats, where are these again? and how was anything I said in the first post even mildly abusive? 123.255.54.161 07:46, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
No not by me. The second time it was reverted by User:Horoball. Stop lying. Carter | Talk to me 07:48, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Oops that was my mistake, and if you notice neither of them were reverted by the user, you say that he (the user) didn't tell you that it was ok for me to write on his user page. Um... its the other way around, you remove stuff if the user says its NOT ok to write stuff on his page! Its not your business to edit out things that have nothing to do with you, or a main wikipedia article. The users page is for the user, thus if he has no problem, why do you? it makes no sense... unless you are just wanting to bully me for whatever reason! 123.255.54.161 07:51, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
See! You keep on making claims before knowing if they're true. You need to be blocked. You keep on saying 'my mistake'. Well, stop making mistakes, and as for the user, he might not be logging in that often. Who knows. My user page has been vandalized recently and others reverted every time. It is everybody's place. you need to read the policies thoroughly on my user page before quoting it to me. Carter | Talk to me 07:53, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
NO I only said it once, the IP change wasnt a mistake, I just didnt realise it had happened, and there isnt anything i can do about it. As for the vandalism claim, it was not vandalism, I was answering the question he posted on his page. You should have moved my answer to the talk page if u feel its more appropriate, but you had no right to delete it and call me a vandal. IT seems to me that it is you who needs to re-read the policies! And what claims are you talking about?123.255.54.161 08:00, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
First of all, please learn how to use indentations, an second of all, I believe yuor comment on his userpage was along the lines of 'you like the cock'? You really think that's appropriate. It's not. Please, you need to learn what's right to do here. Stop making ridiculous arguments you'll lose. Carter | Talk to me 08:03, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
I know how to use identations, and as for the comment, if you read the rest of it you would have noticed immediately after that, the statement "nah just kidding!" and then the answer to the puzzle, if the first bit was offensive why not just remove that? or just ask me to remove it! You acted out in BAD FAITH and overly aggresively. This is precisely the reason why you should never be made an admin. You will simply abuse your power and bully people like you are doing to me!123.255.54.161 08:18, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm not bullying you. It's NOT ok to say things like you did on people's user page. I shouldn't have to delete ANY of it. YOU should know better. This is the only time I've had to have an argument to this extent. I don't know what kind of pattern you think that makes, but as for being an admin, I would certainly teach you the rules of what can get you blocked first hand. you are slandering, and for no good reason. I've already warned you twice to stop adding false information knowingly. I don't want to have to do it again. I'm not acting in bad faith. I'm genuinely concerned for the content in this encyclopedia. Carter | Talk to me 08:22, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Slander? I am just making an observation.. as for the bullying, isn't that about how I feel? You can't do something and say I'm not doing it... it depends on how I feel about your bullying. Like I said, you could have just said "look that's not appropriate, please remove the offending bit of the remark", but you didnt, you assumed the worst (that I was a vandal) and called me that. That is BAD FAITH... read the definition! Then you proceeded with various attacks, and now threats about blocking if you were an admin. I havent used any misinformation, you have bullied me (I have felt bullied) and you have threatned me (for no reason) and you have acted in bad faith!123.255.54.161 08:29, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm done arguing with you. It's up to the admins now. Please DO NOT comment my talk page again. Carter | Talk to me 08:31, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Ok then, I have one final question, where do I go to complain about users that are abusive? thanks in advance 123.255.54.161 08:36, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
  • I've been through all of this and the sockpuppet case (which was confessed and 161 blocked for harassment). Anon is obviously rude, is a vandal, and has attempted — poorly — to put this on Carter. Anon will most likely be back tomorrow and will have more folks wielding clue-sticks to deal with. That's the way a wiki works. --Jack Merridew 11:01, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Edit summary

So where do I add an edit summary on a page like this [2]? Thanks, WWGB 12:49, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Welcoming like a bot

Hello, please do not welcome new users like you do, if they don't have make any contribution. This will help us to revert vandalism. Moreover, you welcomed a vandal user and it is not really a good thing. So before welcome a newcomer, please check for his contributions, and after send him a welcome message, only if he did good contributions. Thank you. Martial BACQUET 13:12, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Dance Dance Revolution

I'm sure you didn't mean to, but you corrected the spelling of a vandalism entry on Dance Dance Revolution

Asher196 04:43, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I of course didn't mean to. I'm running a script that's only looking for spelling not vandalism. I should have been watching. My mistake. Carter | Talk to me 04:48, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
I figured it was something like that. Just letting you know.
Asher196 04:55, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Carter | Talk to me 04:55, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

a thank you

Hi, Carter. Thanks for reverting vandalism to my user page. There were 36 edits to my user page in under 2 hours. I'm handing out cookies today - enjoy. --Jack Merridew 08:50, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

See: [3] which tweaks a box transcluded into your user page, and see: [4] which used to say: Error: value of attribute "valign" cannot be "center"; must be one of "top", "middle", "bottom", "baseline". Cheers, Jack Merridew 10:07, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Jack. Very helpful. Hope you have a good one, and that we run into each other more. If you read my Um... section on this page, you'll see a dispute I just had. Pretty silly, but someone ended up stepping in and taking my side. Happy editing! Carter | Talk to me 10:23, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
