File source problem with File:Vern Gosdin.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Vern Gosdin.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:26, 6 April 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 04:26, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article FYICODE has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. License tagging for File:Mobilefyi.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mobilefyi.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 01:05, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on FYICODE requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. ʝunglejill 06:01, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Speedy at FYICODE[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with FYICODE. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 06:05, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am afraid I have deleted the article FYICODE as promotional. While the code may be a suitable subject for Wikipedia, the article discusses in detail irrelevant topics like a history of communication from Pony Express to URLs; with it removed, there's almost nothing substantial left. A Wikipedia article does not serve for a company to write about itself or its products; it needs to be referenced by reliable third-party sources. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 06:16, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Moved content from Talk:FYICODE[edit]

NEW FYIcode page:[edit]

FYIcode is a new technology that has taken the use of the telephone to a new level of communicating. It compares to QR codes with many extra benefits. FYIcode allows users to get information without the need for a camera enabled smartphone and via the use of any telephone. This page is dedicated to the history of uses of telephones combined with its advertising benefits and how FYIcode is a new technology in this evolution. We are currently adding more sources and information. Please feel free to leave us comments or ask us questions.

Please take a look at WP:Corp. I am nominating this article for deletion. It doesn't help that you haven't considered Wikipedia policies regarding style and citations. ʝunglejill 05:47, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... (we are working on filling in the gaps to illustrate importance in the evolution of communication. FYIcodes are just as important as QR Codes and offers anyone with a telephone a new method of communicating, creating a new historical technology. If QR Codes are an acceptable article we respectfully request you allow FYIcodes as this technology supersedes QRcodes in many areas of communication. We are working on adding our 3rd party sources and should have them noted in the next 24hours) --Dawnrenee14 06:00, 10 June 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dawnrenee14 (talkcontribs)

While FYI codes may be as important as QR codes, they are not as notable. A quick google search reveals that no mention of FYI codes has been made anywhere other than in your company's promotional material. I'm trying to save you the trouble - Wikipedia is not the place to advertise your business and this article is doomed until your company gains some public recognition. ʝunglejill 06:09, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted[edit]

Dear Sirs, this site is not one of promotion but a page of communication evolution. Just in the way QR Codes became a way for people to communicate messages, FYIcodes are the same but better, they allow any user with a telephone to spread their messages. This is along the lines of what a QR code partially offers and we are only trying to document the evolution of a new technology. I did not have enough time to fill in the gaps and the sources to meet your requirements. Please respectfully reinstate so that we may have the opportunity to speak accurately on the behalf of a new historical communication technology.

  • In other words, you have created the article to spread the word about your new technology. And I am afraid you are out of luck; Wikipedia is meant to be an encyclopedia, which is a compendium of existing knowledge, not a means of making something known.
Simply said: Wikipedia won't have an article about the code, unless you can show their non-trivial coverage in reliable third-party sources. (See also the notability guidelines for companies and products.) And even if the FYIcode is a suitable topic for an encyclopedia, your article was unsalvageable. As I had said, it mainly covered unrelated topics, and the rest of the content was largely promotional in nature. If you believe you can create an encyclopedic article about the topic, you can try creating a draft in your user space: User:Dawnrenee14/FYIcode. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 06:31, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am not going to undelete the article. In order to contest the deletion, please go to deletion review. (If you just need the deleted text, either as a reference for your potential new article or to find an alternate outlet for it, I can recover it and e-mail it to you.) - Mike Rosoft (talk) 06:37, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Participating in Wikipedia[edit]

Hi, Dawnrenee14, I'm leaving you this message as a courtesy because you seem to have made some good-faith contributions to Wikipedia in the past. Until FYICODE becomes notable, there will be no Wikipedia article about it. If you try to recreate the article you will probably be blocked. Please save us all the trouble and don't try to create it again. If you wish to make useful contributions to Wikipedia, please take a look at WP:style and WP:cite. You can also take advantage of your sandbox if you wish to experiment. ʝunglejill 06:41, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
