Two edits claiming to "update" assignment details, which deleted them instead[edit]

Hello EVGrous1125, and welcome to Wikipedia and Wikipedia education.

I noticed a couple of edits of yours, where the nicely detailed edit summary did not seem to correspond with the action taken on the page. Namely:

  • this edit at Talk:Gender binary mentions Update Disrupting the Status Quo- Social Justice in Technical and Professional Com assignment details, but the action taken at the page was to delete the assignment that was there previously and replace it with an empty line
  • this edit at Talk:Gender with an identical edit summary and same action.

Did you intend to delete the assignments from these two article Talk pages? If so, then no worries, it did what you wanted. In that case, the choice of the word Update (rather than remove or delete) in the edit summary, which looks like it might have been constructed by a process, is somewhat misleading; certainly "deleting something" is a kind of page update, but not the usual meaning and it makes one wonder when reading the summary if this was the intended result or not. Pinging your content expert User:Ian (Wiki Ed) for assistance with this, and also User:Sage (Wiki Ed). Mathglot (talk) 02:46, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!
Thank you for reaching out, I had assigned these articles to myself instead of adding them to my watchlist so they would show up on my WikiEdu homepage as projects I wanted to work on. When I narrowed down the articles I wanted to focus on I just hit the "Remove Assignment" button on the other articles which may be why the automatically generated message looks a little strange! It certainly was intentional but I don't think the summary reflects the situation accurately.EVGrous1125 (talk) 05:12, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Understood; thank you for clearing that up. Maybe Sage will look into alternate wording in the "remove" case.
Meanwhile, just a tip about communicating with other editors: it's best to start your message with the {{Reply}} template, that way they will be notified that you replied to them. In my case, you would write, {{Reply|Mathglot}}, for example. For details on this, have a look at WP:THREAD. Good luck with your projects, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page. Mathglot (talk) 07:56, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Mathglot Thanks for the ping. Yes, this is really a question for Sage. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:42, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Mathglot:: I've deployed an update (along with the change of putting new assignment templates in new talk sections), so now the edit summary will say "Remove" instead of "Update" when appropriate.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:06, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, thanks. Mathglot (talk) 19:09, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
