Louisiana–Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns football
The Louisiana–Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns football page was wrongfully moved to Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football without any discussion after consensus had been reached for the Louisiana–Lafayette name. I've been unable to move the page back to where it belongs. Could you please find a way to move the page back to Louisiana–Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns football? Thank you. Where is the rivalry known as the Trail of Tears Classic? The first reference given is a dead link, and the second link does not mention the phrase at all. I can't find any reliable source that calls it that. ... discospinster talk 01:40, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

I would request the revisions made be reinstated. As a graduate and former employee of ULM (1980-1989) I can state as first-person source this label was not used. As a the current executive director of communications at A-State, I can confirm from speaking with persons here that even before the respective mascot changes this was not used. The label - at best - is the reflection of individuals upset with the changes who have made this highly inappropriate naming a sarcastic retort to the NCAA's mandate. To add additional cited sources, two standard works on college sports and Louisiana sports history show no evidence that this series name existed prior. Joanne Sloan and Cheryl Watts' College Nicknames and Other Interesting Sports Traditions (Amazon cite: http://www.amazon.com/College-Nicknames-Interesting-Sports-Traditions/dp/0963070037) published in 1993 captured the naming legends of schools along with key rivalry events and traditions. Under A-State, she notes the Osage tribe background of their Indian name. Under then Northeast Louisiana, there is no mention of the tribal backgrounds nor of any series traditions. Bob Remy's Louisiana Sports Encyclopedia was the standard desk reference work for journalists in the early 1980s. Covering back into the early years of NLU, again, no mention of this series (but it does document things like the basketball team's Pacemaker Classic, etc.) Hope these pre-internet sources can assist in revising the statement within that "prior to 2008" -- again, this is an urban legend, not true series like LSU-Arkansas where they play for the Golden Boot or Stephen F.
