Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.--Hu12 (talk) 03:06, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hu12, Thank you so much for your help. I read all articles you recommended me. I'm a new comer and I'd like to be familiar with Wikipedia rules. I tried to add some useful stuff to Wikipedia and made only links that are relevant to the context.
For example:
1) I added my photo and an external link to 'External links' section on Northern Elephant Seal article -
This is a relevant link to the subject of the article and good source. The gallery includes 110 pictures taken at Northern Elephant Seal colony and it's the biggest photo recourse of the Elephant seals on the Internet. The link is under all rules of the external links guideline.
Why you consider the link as a spam link?
2) I added the link to Gay pride parade External links section:
The gallery contains 246 pictures taken during the parade and it's appropriate the article.
What is difference between this link and EuroPride London 2006 Parade & Rally photos for example.
Why you considered my link as a spam and 'EuroPride London 2006 Parade & Rally photos' is not?
I want to contribute to Wikipedia and really want to understand the Wikipedia rules. Thank you for help!

FYI - Image use policies on Wikipedia

[edit]

You may not be aware of certain details in Wikipedia's Image use policy. While the images on freefoto.ca are released under CC-by-sa-nc-3.0, this Creative Commons license does not satisfy the policy with respect to free licenses. In particular, it is the "nc" (non-commercial use only) that is an issue and makes the image not free for Wikipedia uses. As such freefoto.ca images cannot be used under their current license. — ERcheck (talk) 12:53, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ERcheck,
I really appreciate your help. I'm doing my first steps on Wiki and I'd like to do it properly  :-)
All images on freefoto.ca are my own photos. I uploaded them to freefoto.ca with 1024x768 resolution. And I uploaded some of them to WikiCommons with max resolution I have - typically around 3000 × 2000.
I though I can release the same image under different licences for these different projects:
CC-By-SA-NC-3.0 for freefoto.ca and
CC-By-SA-3.0 for Commons images - I specify this licence on image pages (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Elephant_seal_colony.jpg)
Is this not a good practice? Filtv (talk) 23:46, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
