Re: Tellabs page[edit]

Thank you for your contributions, but based on the tone of your additions, they seem like copy-pasted informal PR pieces. I've removed the advert tag and added a rewrite and a nofootnotes tag instead. Are you Howard Wolinsky of the Chicago Sun-Times? --Geniac (talk) 18:09, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Tellabs page[edit]

Hi, Geniac. I am new to doing a WIki entry. I am trying to learn with this Tellabs entry. Yes, I am Howard Wolinsky. Formerly of the Sun-Times. I took a buyout in January. I am freelancing now. Just had my first article in the Chicago Tribune feature section last week and have another coming this Tuesday. I can add footnotes per your request. There is an article for every one of those cites. I thought the history of the company was pretty interesting--and not a PR piece. How can I best upgrade this entry to meet your standards?

--HWolinsky123 (talk)

They're not my standards I'm talking about; they're Wikipedia standards. Having another look at this revision that you made, I'll try to list some things I noticed, besides stuff that needs citations:

  • History header. Besides a few special exceptions, articles don't start with headers. There should be an intro sentence or two like "Tellabs is a global designer and manufacturer of telecommunications equipment for service providers."
  • "They wanted to build..." How do you know what somebody else wanted? If possible, quoting somebody as "We wanted to build..."
  • What's "seed money"? Synonym for capital?
  • "Tellabs sounded grand" to whom?
  • Header: "Tellabs Expands Products, Makes Acquisitions". The last four words in this header are not proper nouns and so should not be capitalised. Same applies to later headers.
  • "And the Titan 5500 did 'hunt.'". What does "hunt" mean?
  • "Notebaert was dubbed by news media as the '$6 billion man.'" Which news media?
  • Controversy section contains just a link to another article. A brief description of the lawsuit should be put here.
  • References section. Other Wikipedia articles are not references, but they could be in a See also section. However, any article that is already wikilinked in an article doesn't need to be in a See also section.

Yes, the history of the company is pretty interesting, but some of the wording throughout threw me off, like the buzzword "solutions". --Geniac (talk) 12:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks better, but you got an error on a ref. --Geniac (talk) 05:24, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed; looks better now, so I'll remove the rewrite tag as well shortly. I'll go through and do some formatting and see if I have any more content suggestions. --Geniac (talk) 16:04, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
