Get the Picture[edit]

Why is my entry getting deleted from the Get the Picture Page. ??

Why do you delete my entry on Get The Picture page. I think being original personnel is an important part of the show.

Bill —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bill Timberlake (talkcontribs) .

Dude, You are simply an admin secretary on an encyclopedai website. Bro, all I asked was why my post wasn't allowed. You made your point. By threatening me with blockage is childish and a great point I will use on my radio show when I talk about wikipedia in the future. I am not using the fact that I was the warm up host for the show to benefit me in any way. I merely was part of the show and have seen areas on other pages where there is a Personnel section. Just because I am not Mike O'Malley doesn't take away the fact that I helped to make the show run. I am included on the credits as well. I would think camera men and stage managers would fit neatly into these articles, for those who want to know everything about the history of the show. It's funny how when Mike O'Malley slipped and cursed, that seems to be important enough to include, but a person who helped the show run isn't!
Exactly what is wikipedia for?? Is it only for the famous to be recognized? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bill Timberlake (talkcontribs) .
Ok here is a post from the page "In one episode the question of "What was the second movie of the Star Wars trilogy?" When one tean answered Return of the Jedi, Mike O'Mally said "Yes!", the board lit up and dinged, and the audience applauded, O'Mally then had to interrupt the celebration saying "Yes, that is incorrect", realizing he incorrectly accepted the answer. The opposing team then buzzed in with the correct answer, inexplicably, they were not awarded points."
How was this post verified? I googled it and didn't find it. Why is it even relevant to the show?
Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bill Timberlake (talkcontribs) .

Thanks for the response. I understand more now about what wikipedia is. Take Care.

Hangman[edit]

Did I do it right? Am I supposed to replace the {{{1}}} with my signature? Or was it supposed to do that by itself?  OzLawyer / talk  02:38, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have to note to users that they have to subst: the template. Thajigisup (among others) didn't, and then he went to the actual page that was supposed to get substed and edited that, resulting in other games having his information.  OzLawyer / talk  13:52, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hangman rules[edit]

The following are allowed:

  • Words having an entry of their own in the English Wiktionary (English definitions only) and their correct variations
  • Words listed on dictionary.com (boldface) and listed variations
  • Phrases that "make sense" and whose facts are not wrong

These rules (yes, written by fetofs, but which seem to be the current rules) are ambiguous. The first two rules make no mention of Wikipedia entries. So are we excluding them (and the many proper nouns that are not allowable because of that?) If not, then "Phrases that "make sense" and whose facts are not wrong" could be interpreted to allow proper nouns (and other Wikipedia entries that might for some reason not have a dictionary entry) as long as those words are included in phrases. If this was not the intention, then it needs to say that phrases must also only be made up of words found in the English Wiktionary or on dictionary.com. I only glanced at this definition, assuming that Wikipedia articles were still allowable. Any idea how we can settle this since the tournament has already started?  OzLawyer / talk  17:33, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WP: WHMT[edit]

I started my hangman game, and I informed my opponent. My opponent did not respond within 28 hours, so I messaged again. It's been more than 24 hours since, and there has been no action. What do I do? -- Thajigisup 01:07, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

November Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

I reverted your prod-tagging of this article because your reason that it had "the same information as before, with literally no new changes" is not correct. The page significantly altered between the time it was redirected to Super Bowl [1] and when another user rewrote the page about the league announcing that it tentatively awarded the game to Kansas City, Missouri.[2] For the next several months, the article was updated based on news about the city trying to get funding for improvements to Arrowhead Stadium, a tax measure that had to be approved by voters, and the eventual withdrawal by the city in May 2006. During that period, the "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball" rule did not apply to the article.

I do not believe the "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball" rule applies in the current version of the article now because the second paragraph basically summarizes the failed attempt by the league to schedule Super Bowl XLIX in Kansas City. If you wish, you can merge the article to Super Bowl, but I would object to deleting the entire page history because it was considered current and relevant from March to May 2006. Thanks. 1.5 millionth article[edit]

I'm also interested in this matter (probably for the article in the Signpost this coming week). Thanks in advance. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 23:04, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My decision was based on a comment to the main page talk by AmiDaniel: "It's not conclusive yet though--the contest seems to be between Kanab Ambersnail, Hotel Torni, and the one you mentioned. We won't know for sure for some time, so let's just try to stay calm". A while after he made it, there was no decision, so I decided to step in and just choose Kanab on the basis that it couldn't be declared trivial, as it is an endangered species, and that the article could easily be expanded. While the Hotel Torni did show promise, there was no guarantee that there'd be enough interest and easily available information to expand it. Other choices mentioned, like Alonzo Jackson, just seemed really dislikable. As there was no definitive answer, I saw no harm in choosing a symbolic 1,500,000th by making those judgement calls. Let me know if you want to know more. -- Zanimum 18:03, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2010 World Cup links[edit]

Hello Ian I added a link to the World Cup 2010 page, www.worldcup2010southafrica.com and you have called it link spam. Why? The site is providing relevenat and up to date information, not contained on the Wikipedia page for anyone wanting more information. I would apprecaite a response.

As you do not have an account, I'll respond here:
From the website: "This website is not connected with the World Cup 2010 Organising Committee or FIFA." Therefore, it is not a "site that should be linked to" (per the policy at WP:EL). This site also falls under "Links normally to be avoided" because said site has "objectionable amounts of advertising." If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Texas Bowl[edit]

I was looking up some information on the Texas Bowl, and it has no link to the Houston Bowl. The Texas Bowl website, under Bowl Information or About the Bowl, says that the NCAA awarded a new bowl game. I understood that to mean that the Texas Bowl was starting, after the Houston Bowl ended at the conclusion of last season.

Las Vegas Bowl[edit]

Not sure why you sent me a message about "deliberately adding incorrect information" on the Las Vegas Bowl page. All I did was put that Oregon will be playing in the game, which is correct. Smart guy. MaroonFrog 15:02, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Liberty Bowl, GMAC Bowl and NFL[edit]

Either Houston or Southern Miss will be in both the Liberty (winner of December 1 C-USA Championship game) and GMAC (loser of December 1 C-USA Championship Game)

As for the Ravens, they can clinch their division with a win over 2nd place Cincinnati tonight. (November 30) With a win, they would be up 4 with 4 to go and would have swept the Bengals.

So, I have been giving out CORRECT information.

Just joined[edit]

As far as the C-USA teams. Fair enough.

Texas[edit]

Listen, bud. I would love to see your proof for the reasons as to why the Texas Bowl is linked to the Houston Bowl. I happen to have a quote from the official Texas Bowl site, you have a blog. Leave this job to the real college football people.

Mythical National Championship[edit]

You proposed that the Mythical National Championship page deleted because it lacks sources and sounds like original research. I'll concede that it lacks sources, that is something that needs to be fixed, however, it is not original research. I think that it would have been better if you had simply tagged it with a "this article needs sources" tag. Could you please reconsider so that this valuable information doesn't get deleted. It is of great value to the college football community. Thanks. Seancp 22:01, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
