Untied[edit]

Welcome! I noticed there was a lot of newspaper coverage, so I thought I'd start an article about that site. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:17, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Anyway, you are welcome to edit the Untied.com article. Please review Wikipedia:Conflict of interest so you can understand what guidelines need to be followed by owners of websites discussed on here. Happy editing! WhisperToMe (talk) 21:25, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help! If the organization works, then it's great :) - One thing is to make sure that the information is cited to the proper source (so if source A says something, it's cited to source A). I can e-mail copies of some articles that I've obtained, if need be. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:26, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have links/extracts to most of the media coverage of my site since inception (untied.com/site/news.shtml and more recently untied.com/SLAPP) but if you have something I'm missing, please let me know. (Should I be responding to you here or on your talk page?) Jcooperstock (talk) 21:29, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Either way is fine :) - Some editors prefer for one to keep it in one talk page, so with other editors check their talk pages for instructions WhisperToMe (talk) 21:32, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Much appreciated. I'll keep adding here then. Note that I'm reticent about adding content regarding the SLAPP suit as I don't want to convey an impression of bias (and I'm trying to focus my efforts right now on preparing legal arguments for the court). Jcooperstock (talk) 21:57, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If the SLAPP content was not commented on by newspapers, books, or journal articles, then it may be best not to refer to it. Wikipedia is a tertiary source that relies on published secondary source info (which is why I'm using those newspaper articles), while primary source info can be added in some circumstances. Anyway, do you remember the URL for the first website that was later shut down? If so, I may be able to bring up archives of that website on the Internet Archive. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:05, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There are quite a few comments from newspapers and other media on the SLAPP suit (linked from the right margin of http://untied.com/SLAPP/) as well as the court documents (http://untied.com/SLAPP/documents.shtml); I assume that these would be legitimate secondary sources. The initial URL was www.dgp.toronto.edu/~jer/poorshow -- I've resurrected early versions of what that page looked like based on my own records but the Internet Archive didn't save it pre shutdown in 1997. Jcooperstock (talk) 22:10, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info! I found the newer newspaper articles and I'll begin using them in the article :) WhisperToMe (talk) 22:42, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're an impressive researcher/writer, both in speed and quality! Please let me know if there are any other questions with which I can help. Jcooperstock (talk) 23:34, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I'll be sure to ask around if I need anything :) WhisperToMe (talk) 23:56, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Updates: Somebody nominated Untied.com for the "Did You Know" portion of the front page: Template:Did you know nominations/Untied.com - Also I mentioned that you may be connected to the article subject on the talk page at Talk:Untied.com WhisperToMe (talk) 07:06, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Very nice! And "may be" connected is perhaps understated :-) Jcooperstock (talk) 12:25, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WhisperToMe -- there's been an exciting development in the case, with the Quebec Court of Appeal asking the Superior Court to take a hard look at whether United's action against Untied.com constitutes a SLAPP. The ruling (in French) is here: www.untied.com/SLAPP/Appeal/2013-09-27--court_decisions_leave_to_appeal.pdf Jcooperstock (talk) 11:41, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry it took so long for me to get here. That's interesting! Know if the newspapers have reported on it? I archived the document here http://www.webcitation.org/6Ll3y3PCa WhisperToMe (talk) 09:29, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WhisperToMe -- yes, in fact, just today, the following appeared: http://www.internationallawoffice.com/newsletters/Detail.aspx?g=7c8e2cea-1343-4e3f-b273-f4b98b9a5575 and the successful appeal has been cited in several other cases:

It might be best to wait for an article from a newspaper, but I'll take the links to the article talk page and archive them : There are three webpage archival services that allow you to manually archive web content:
http://web.archive.org (allows you to manually archive any content and also has a crawler that does it automatically)
http://webcitation.org
http://archive.is (does not archive much other than HTML and images, not sure if it archives CSS pages)
