Help[edit]

Hello new wikiproject member! I was a member last year and have had some success with several articles. If you need help or advice I am still pretty active on wikipedia and will be more than willing to assist you. Just leave me a comment on my talk page. Note that I will not do your work for you!!!--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 16:43, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that your page is a little box-less. you can find them all here. --Artemis Gray (talk) 02:40, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mauritian Tomb Bat image[edit]

When you click the browse button on WikiCommons it's browsing you hard disk - not the internet. So before you can add at image you first got to copy the image to your hard disk. So firstly go to original (i.e http://www.flickr.com/photos/42244964@N03/4026818451/sizes/o/) right click and save image as, then later add it into WikiCommmons. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 20:13, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you but when do i upload it from the upload from flikr site when it gives me all those options or is it another mode of uploading that is to be used? And if it is flikr what do i put under liscence? Thank you!--Jraffe0404 (talk) 21:24, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your reply is unclear to me can you rephrase? Here is first steps instructions on WikiCommons. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 21:47, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry what i mean is what do i puit under the permission part of the upload form it says it needs a liscence--Jraffe0404 (talk) 01:36, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Vaaaancemiiiiller!!! Can you hear him!? Just kidding I'll ask him if he can help.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 02:03, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What you put in the permission depends on the situation on a particular image and so you have to read through the documentation to find it out. If your referring to the images I linked on Flickr then each image has a Creative commons license listed against it. Sadly I just checked with a Wikipedia Flickr tool and neither are directly allowed based on it's current Creative commons license( see Commons:Commons:Flickr_files). You may like to contact the uploaders and explain the Wikipedia situation(once you understand it yourself) and ask to have the Flickr license changed to something suitable. What exactly is the image that we’re having problems with? Link? — Vancemiller (talk · contribs · count · email) 15:50, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Here's another question: does all this mean that you guys are definitely doing that article. If so, I recommend coming up with a (substantial) list of potential references.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 22:09, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. While images are important, they are among some of the last things you add to an article. Having a substantial amount of credible resources will benefit you much more at this stage of the project. — Vancemiller (talk · contribs · count · email) 02:56, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay Sorry guys i just figured out the talk page scenario. Yes we have done a background check and have found several credible journals and essays online as well as trying finding several encyclopedia books. There is actually a suprising bit of inforomation, but i suppose its just not that well advertised as a creature. First of all its a bat and most people don't like bats and then it the Mauritian Tomb Bat which is relatively foreboding. Thank you guys for helping out with this. We'll need it all the more the farther we get into this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jraffe0404 (talkcontribs) 14:20, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would try to find like, more than 20 sources that you know are credible. Btw, we weren't bashing bats, long live those hairy, smelly, scary beasts! (p.s. don't forget to sign your comments: four tildes).--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 23:41, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. And i could have sworn i signed my name but i will double check next time. i don't know about tonight cause i have a ton of homework. but i will definitly.--Jraffe0404 (talk) 00:23, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
View it as a precaution, if there's not an abundance of information available to you, it may not be feasible to write an FA article about it.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 00:27, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well...[edit]

...its been about a month now, not too much work done/being done, hope you have a good explination for that at the end of the year when you sit down with the big cheese...--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 18:39, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To add on to User:NYMFan69-86 above,

There is no excuse for not editing. Do yourself a favor, and edit now while you can work at a relaxed pace. You’ll soon find that that’s how Wikipedia functions. Procrastination only yields a failing grade and a poorly written article. You might want to check out these things if you haven’t already: Article views:[1],[2]. edit count. Also, if you have a wikipedia-related problem that’s stopping you from editing or need some help, feel free to ask by posting a message on my, User:NYMFan69-86, User:JimmyButler, etc.’s talk pages. –Vancemiller (talk · contribs · count · email) 22:27, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So true...if it's a problem other than procrastination preventing you from doing your work, ask someone for help. Btw, Vancemiller, what happened to your cool signature?--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 00:38, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The one that looked like this? I got rid of it when I was doing FA for the loggerhead. It took up a lot of extra space and was slightly annoying. Plus, I didn’t want to get on the bad side of the reviewers.Vancemiller (talk · contribs · count · email) 01:51, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hahaha...yeah, that one. That's a good reason I suppose, but it seems like a lot of people have even more complex signatures.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 17:21, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks guys. I shall be careful with my wiki-writing. I am sorry for the lack of effort being put in at the moment but I have been swamped with school lately. I realize this is a poor excuse and it shall not continue. Thanks! --Jraffe0404 (talk) 01:13, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay, wikipedia can be intimidating. Just keep in mind that you a) have a time limit, b) have a lot of work to do, and c) have a tremendous amount of support. Good luck, NYMFan69-86 (talk) 00:57, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Range Map Please[edit]

Can you do a range map for the Southern Pudu. It is one of our old GA articles. Not bad - but it is remiss without the map. Here is your source: Range Map

Oh...is this kid the vancemiller of his generation? I have a range map that needs constructing as well. If you're willing to help a poor schlep out, let me know (I need your e-mail address though).  :-) NYMFan69-86 (talk) 04:34, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting...[edit]

Miniopterus manavi: a GA bat article you may want to gauge the Mauritian against closely.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 03:51, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Having read through it, don't try to emulate it exactly. Your sources probably give nice, concise information while that article can get really specific at times.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 18:14, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Striking[edit]

I think a striking malfunction may have occurred...I see some of the issues I brought still in the article.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 05:12, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely malfunction. I have only worked up through Behavior, and i only did a couple of the reproductives yet. I have done all the stuff up through that first though. And I can't fix it because their is not there is not the <s> to fix. --Jraffe0404 (talk) 05:17, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, just making sure. Keep trucking brother, some great work being put in (...you savage up at midnight editing the wiki!!!...)--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 05:20, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing like a nice movie while lying in bed with the ol' laptop making the world a more knowledgable place. --Jraffe0404 (talk) 05:24, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes indeed. Btw, its <s> to start a strike and </s> to close it (I think that may have been the problem).--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 05:27, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lets put this up for peer-review... go to the help desk for procedure. We need a GA attempt before Christmas.--JimmyButler (talk) 17:26, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm...what of your concerns?--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 17:58, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
