In a recent edit to the page Severus Snape, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, just ask anyone on Wikipedia and they will help you. Thank you. Faithlessthewonderboy 01:56, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rats, beat me to it. :) - Arcayne (cast a spell) 06:31, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry about that, I just saw the words "skilful" and "instalment" and automatically assumed it was just spelling errors. KellyLeighC 12:21, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As mentioned, it is not a problem. It happens. It would have been a problem had you come back later and changed them back again (an edit war). See for example what happened recently in the Severus Snape page when an editor changed the spelling (and title of the first book), was corrected, and then tried again. Now that is a problem. What you did is not a problem, and you were just given a friendly "heads up". Keep trying to improve Wikipedia and correct any mistakes you think are there! Magidin 14:26, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tips :) KellyLeighC 01:57, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another tip: one generally does not correct another person's comments in talk pages. Magidin 13:58, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that too. Maybe I should just go ahead and trash my account because it seems like all I'm doing is screwing the site up. I read a line somewhere in a section of the helpdesk that says, word-for-word, "articles about yourself will be deleted in accordance with our deletion policies" so what's the point in my creating *any* kind of a userpage if someone's just going to delete it? KellyLeighC 18:47, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most of us mess up the first few times; I would not worry about it. You made a few benign, understandable, errors. They are certainly not worth "trash[ing]" your account. As for your latter question: there is a difference between a User Page and an article. User:KellyLeighC is a perfectly fine thing to create about yourself. What you should not do is create a Wikipedia entry about yourself, i.e., a page without the "User:" prefix. In your userpage, however, you can feel free to add stuff about yourself. Just remember that it is not meant to be a personal homepage. Take a look at some other people's User pages, and at the general policies on user pages if you feel unsure about what to put there. Magidin 20:45, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked at other user pages, then looked over my current User Page and started to add some information to it but my new additions looked like pure crap, so I deleted them. I guess it's going to end up staying blank, because I can't create a userpage from scratch. There's no sense in having a blank User Page though. Maybe I *should* wipe my account. KellyLeighC 23:23, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If that's what you want to do, then do that. Up to you. Not everyone has a fancy userpage; and you can always sneak a peak at others' and steal... I mean, borrow, any ideas or templates you happen to like. Magidin 04:09, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Won't borrowing other templates or ideas be considered piracy and set your page up as an automatic candidate for deletion? KellyLeighC 10:51, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt it. Most of the templates are here for Users' convenience (e.g., the language template, the origin templates, etc). Magidin 19:32, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Kelly, I think you want Wikipedia:WikiProject User Page Help (they'll even help you with specific modifications!). Don't worry about stealing templates and formatting. In most cases, those will be things on lots of folks' user pages. If in doubt, just ask someone about borrowing whatever they're using. Lot's of people have borrowed my talk page header with and without my permission, and I don't mind.--Chaser - T 23:19, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your userpage help request[edit]

Hello KellyLeighC! I noticed your request to have your userpage renovated, and I will be happy to help. I am handy with Wiki-markup, and know my way around the Userboxing world. If you agree, I will create a sandbox page and make changes to your userpage there, as not to disrupt your real userpage. I will take the changes you want me to make one at a time, with your comments on how I am doing. I can offer advice, and, when you are completely satisfied with my work, I will turn the sandbox into your true userpage. No change of your signature required! No redirects! Tell me on my talk page if you accept, and also tell me what you want changed. Thank you! --FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 05:48, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Starting from scratch[edit]

OK. Tell me what you want on your userpage. They range from a short description of yourself in either paragraph or userbox form (I personally like userboxes, you can see an example of userboxes on the bottom of my User Page), movies/games you like, what your computer's hardware is, and just about everything else you can think of. Also, if you want it, I can give you the code for the status changer, that little red/blue/green light at the top of my user page and talk page that says if I am online or not. To change it, you simple click one of the buttons "in", "busy", or "out" which will appear next to the "log out" link. While I can't exactly help you with a paragraph description of yourself, if you choose userboxes, you can place them on your userpage's sandbox. Then, tell me below what format you want your userboxes organized in, and I will organize them for you. My page uses the "collapsible userboxes" system, but there is also a "scrolling column" system, the "column" system, where all of your userboxes are in a single column to either the left or right side of your userpage, or simply have the boxes sprawled out in a table format. Information about userboxes can be found here, as well as links to all the different userboxes you can place on your userpage (computing, politics, etc.). And in any case, I can help with the wikimarkup and even add a page wrapper, an example can be found here. So, just let me know, and I'll get right to work.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 20:15, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Work is beginning[edit]

OK. First, we should continue talking about renovation here (for continuity reasons), second, I will get started right away, and third, I will give you the instructions once I am done with the first edit.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 23:02, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit 1 Completed with problems[edit]

I added the userboxes, but couldn't find most of them. I am assuming that because you mentioned them, you found them, but in any case, here is how you add more: To create a category (such as Environment and Politics), between the markers which read "<!-- Place userboxes below here --> and <!-- Place userboxes above here --> (the <!-- and --> makes it so that text only appears when editing the page), place name of category, and underneath, place userboxes in the following format, for example, or User Wikipedian. When you reach a certain number of userboxes, the scroll bar will appear and allow you to scroll through the boxes.
To create userboxes, simply click here for detailed instrucions. Then, you should create your own userbox gallery of userboxes you have created and where people can comment on them like mine here. Also, you should post them here as new userboxes under the correct date using the instructions close to the top of the page. I am working on the page wrapper and will have it ready soon. In the meantime, what colors do you want for your wrapper? Speaking of colors, the hexadecimal codes for different colors can be found here.

StatusChanger[edit]

Here is how you get the status changer:
1. Create a page called User:KellyLeighC/Status and copy the below to it

2. Create a page called User:KellyLeighC/StatusTemplate and copy the below to it

<!-- Credit User:Misza13 -->
<div style="border: 0px solid black; background: white; float: right; position: relative; top: -30px; padding: 5px">
KellyLeighC's status: {{ #switch: {}
| in=<span style="color: green;">Online </span>
| busy=<span style="color: blue;">Busy/Away </span>
| out=<span style="color: red;">Offline </span>
}}
</div>

3. Copy the below to your monobook.js file

// User:Voice_of_All/Addtabs/monobook.js

importScript('User:Voice_of_All/Addtabs/monobook.js');

// User:Misza13/statusChanger.js

importScript('User:Misza13/statusChanger.js');

4. Clear your browser's cache
You should now see in, busy, and out to the left of log out at the top of the page (on any page)
To change your status, simply click in, busy, or out!
Please note that you must use the monobook theme for this to work.
I'll get right to work on the wrapper.
FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 02:20, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, paste to any page you want your status displayed on, and you can make any userbox you want with the instructions I gave you in the last post (with a few exceptions, generally, if it shouldn't be on your userpage, it shouldn't be in a userbox. I would recommend the "User:" namespace. That may make no sense, but once you read all the directions it will.

No, you did it right. Don't worry, you described the changer when it works completely! The lights appear on the page you paste to.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 04:10, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yup. Working fine.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 23:33, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit 2 Completed![edit]

OK. The wrapper is done! Note that when the entire process is completed, a similar wrapper will be added to your talk page. Also note that to edit the content of your userpage, you have to click the small "edit this page" link in the purple part of the wrapper. Clicking "edit this page" at the top of the page like normal will result in editing the actual wrapper itself instead of the user page content. As you also may notice, the wrapper looks blank without any text. You could do what I do on my userpage, list some other details about yourself, your favorite movies, etc. The sandbox can be found here. Note that the menu in the wrapper will not work until the entire renovation is completed.

Need more help?[edit]

Since you haven't asked my for anything recently, it may be time to migrate user pages. If you are happy with your userpage now, I can migrate it for you, but if you want more, I will be happy to continue to help.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 23:13, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are two possible reasons as to why it isn't displaying correctly. First, you could be viewing your old user page, not the sandbox page. To view the sandbox page, where the changes are being made, click here. Second, of you aren't using Mozilla Firefox, you should get it. Not only is it a superior browser to IE, Safari, and all the other browsers, most Wikipedia pages display better in Firefox. Also, if you spend a lot of time viewing pages that only work in IE, you can get IETab, which allows you to view IE pages in Firefox without any problems. To get IE Tab, click here. If neither of these is true, let me know and I will see what I can do.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 23:34, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, if anything, Firefox will make your computer safer!
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 01:39, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there anything else I can do for you? If not, it is probably time to migrate! If there is, let me know. In any case, tell me your decision below because the section will archive soon on my talk page. Thanks,
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 06:46, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It might be time to go ahead and migrate the page over, but I'm not sure if anything else needs changed or not. I downloaded firefox, but I haven't installed it yet. Will it overwrite microsoft internet explorer? If it does overwrite, would it screw something up? I've saved the setup program to a folder, but I don't know if running it would overwrite a bunch of other programs. KellyLeighC 14:24, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Firefox will not overwrite IE, and if you use the extension IE Tab (which I linked to somewhere above this), you won't need to switch between browsers at all, you'd just have to click the "switch browser" button (for sites that don't work in Firefox, also note that you must install Firefox, then click on the download link for IE Tab (in Firefox) to install it). Since you aren't sure about the page, I'll stand by for a final decision, whether it's migrate or change something. One thing you can do, however, is go to the sandbox page and start adding userboxes and writing some information about yourself. Remember, your satisfaction is my top priority.

Self help userbox tutorial[edit]

I have just completed my userbox tutorial. It is an interactive, self-help tutorial for creating userboxes! Click here to begin. Wait for the instructions to load. --FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 05:25, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The instructions load in the edit box, not in the preview window. Also, ignore the scary message at the top of the page when you use it.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 00:56, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Go here and follow the instructions. Remember, the tutorial begins in the edit box, not the page.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 19:47, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Did you get it working yet? --FastLizard4 TalkLinksSign) 05:36, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. KellyLeighC 20:13, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Try going here and reading the instructions and starting it from there. It also shows pictures of what you should see, then get back to me.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 21:38, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I went to the page and tried to start it, but something came up showing this message: "Wikipedia does not have a user page with this exact title. Before creating this page, please see Wikipedia:Subpages." Now I'm really confused. KellyLeighC 22:43, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right. To use it, you create the page. To use the tutorial, simply skip all the content and go directly to the edit box, where you should see some text. Those are the instructions.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 23:16, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here are some pictures to assist. The one here should be the first thing you see when you attempt to start the tutorial. Skip down to the edit box, where you should see something like the one here. --FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 23:19, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Something's wrong with this thing. It's not working. KellyLeighC 23:23, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Funny. I just tried doing it logged out. Did you attempt to start it using this page? If so, when you clicked "Start Tutorial!", is this the first thing you saw?
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 23:57, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just go here and scroll down to the place where you type in changes, regardless of whatever else you see on the page. That is where the instructions will load. --FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 00:44, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can't create the page. I tried three times and it's turned out as crap on my end. I guess that means I can forget about ever making any userboxes. :( KellyLeighC 23:34, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you would like, you could take a look at the userboxes I have already made at my gallery here. Some even use parser functions, and would be a great way to learn. If there is anything else I can do for you, just let me know, if there isn't I can go ahead and apply the changes to your userpage.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 02:23, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, I just created this section of my userpage which has bar graphs indicating the estimated progress of your userpage. Something new to look at... --FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 08:57, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Heheh, the "editor deletion" thing is a rather humerous look at Wikipedia policy, it's one large joke, or as it says on the page, "This is an official policy, as far as Spebi is concerned.", and near that, "This page contains material which is kept because it is humerus." I'll get to work on your page this weekend; I usually don't on weekdays due to school. --FastLizard4 (TalkIndexSign) 03:53, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Signature help[edit]

If you want, I can also help you create a customized signature, like mine! --FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 05:58, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd really like that. Thanks :) KellyLeighC 22:44, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Based on what you have told me before about your color preferences, how about one of these:
Option 1 (Code may be too long): KellyLeighC (Talk|Contribs)
Option 2 (Code may be too long): KellyLeighC
Option 3 (Shortest code): KellyLeighC
Option 4: KellyLeighC (Talk|Contribs)
Note that options 1 and 2 can be any combinations of colors
Breakdown of signatures (where the links go to):
Option 1: Link To Userpage (Link to talk page|Link to contributions)
Option 2: Link to userpageLink to talk pageLink to contributions
Option 3: Link to userpageLink to talk pageLink to contributions
Option 4: Link to userpage (Link to talk page|Link to contributions)
Just let me know if you would like more choices or like one of these.
--FastLizard4 (TalkLinksSign) 23:47, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can't really decide right now. Could you give me some more ideas, I could look over them and then I can decide please? Thanks. :) KellyLeighC 23:27, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The ideas above are just the most basic. If you could give me an idea of what you want it to look like, that would be great. And, also, if you try to start the tutor here when following all instructions, it has a new interface (a header at the top of the page), and don't worry about screwing up. Just try, try again (it took me about 8 weeks to learn ubx code).

Email help[edit]

The main help page for this Help:Email confirmation. Two questions to start with:

 1. If you go to "My preferences", does it display the new email address there?
 2. If you go to Special:ConfirmEmail, what does it say about your email address?

Edit warring over stake center photo at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints[edit]

Please be careful not to engage in edit warring over whether this article should include a photo of a stake centre, as opposed to a smaller ward meetinghouse. This is a legitimate matter for discussion on the article's talk page, but edit warring is absolutely not acceptable here as a way of dealing with content disputes (even if you are convinced that you are right and everyone else is wrong). Since it is clear that at least two other editors disagree with your strongly held opinion on this topic, it is positively essential that you do not make any further attempts to change the existing photo until and unless a discussion of the matter reveals a definite consensus in favour of replacing the photo. See the dispute resolution policy for more details. Persistence in edit warring here is likely to get you blocked from editing Wikipedia, so please take this warning seriously. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 23:18, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
