RFA Thanks[edit]

Thanks!
Thanks for your input on my (nearly recent) Request for adminship, which regretfully achived no consensus, with votes of 68/28/2. I am grateful for the input received, both positive and in opposition, and I'd like to thank you for your participation.

Arpad Elo[edit]

Will you pleast step in and undo User:Calton's undiscussed move of Arpad Elo, contrary to everything in Wikipedia:Naming conventions, without any discussion on the long-standing talk page, as pointed out at Talk:Árpád Élő#User:Calton trying to pick a fight. That this is indeed [User:Calton|Calton's]] sole purpose is quite evident from his reply on [my talk page. Gene Nygaard 05:31, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please. You left a childish, foot-stamping threat on my page ("Now, please move that back, or I will have to find the appropriate place for a complaint against your actions"). That's not picking a fight, that's calling your bluff. --Calton | Talk 06:30, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
um, is mot Wikipedia:Requested moves the right place to discuss this? I don't think I'm competent to have an opinion on this one at this time without a lot more research. ++Lar: t/c 12:05, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IRC[edit]

Hi. If I want access to #wikipedia-en-admins do I need to contact you even if I am an administrator? / Fred-Chess 15:45, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Before I forget, I had intended to ask on IRC what template to use for sockpuppet banned users (if I wait two minutes longer, I will forget the question) .

Fred-Chess 15:47, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To use that channel you need to be on the access list. I am one of several that can add you. Once on, you have to invite yourself to join every time you start up your chat client again. However it is possible to get an invite exemption, if you have a consistent mask. Do you have a cloak? ++Lar: t/c 00:23, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have a cloak.
Can you please add me to the list and tell me how to proceed?
Fred-Chess 15:46, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. There are other people that can help you but since you don't have a cloak I'll want you to verify your identity for me by getting hold of me in IRC and doing something I tell you to do. What is your IRC nick? I tried fred-chess but did not find you. ++Lar: t/c 16:04, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't online. It should work now. / Fred-Chess 16:05, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's been too long[edit]

I left a brief reply on my talkpage, and email will be forthcoming shortly. It's funny, because I had been meaning to get in touch with you. I had wondered if you had any non-admin tasks (especially in the DYK area) that I might be able to help with? Let me know if I can give you a hand with anything. --Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 16:22, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, you have mail. Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 19:21, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No rush on letting me know I have mail, I get to it all eventually... As for DYK things, take a look at the talk pages there, as there is talk of a new way to let non admins stage up nominations in advance. There is also the thought that non admins could notify the authors/noms of articles that the article was promoted... ++Lar: t/c
Thanks, I'll look into that; sounds like fun. Also, here is the link I mentioned. It was certainly a learning experience : ) Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 20:26, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom elections 2006 summary[edit]

Ooh, yes please! Like here. ;-) I saw your comment on the talk page, and I'd made a brief start at User:Carcharoth/ArbCom_Elections. But I fear the amount of stuff to wade through will overwhelm me. Carcharoth 23:09, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've also thought of listing the date each candidate nominated themselves for the elections, and also listing those that entered and then withdrew (for a complete record). Also, checking the block log to see which candidates have been blocked in the past. That sort of thing. Do you think that goes too far? All this would, of course, only be as notes on my user pages. Carcharoth 17:59, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Those seem good things to me, yes. Try using {{Admin}} to list things about the candidate that become clickable. No need to actually count blocks per se. I probably will do my own list but am not sure when... soon. ++Lar: t/c 19:19, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
See also User:Jd2718/jd2718_ArbCom_notes. That includes opinion, something I want to try and avoid in my collection of information. Carcharoth 01:26, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just in case you miss it, there is a table being constructed over here. Carcharoth 06:42, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymous AOL user on the rampage[edit]

Hello Lar, do you think you could take some of your time to look into this? I have a feeling that it hasn't attracted any administrator attention so far, and personally I'm growing sick and tired of reverting the same articles over and over again, in order to remove nonsense added by this vandal: My post on the Administrator's noticeboard /M.O (u) (t) 00:31, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Replied on AN/I, thanks for letting me know. Blocked the lot of them for 48 hours... (can't indef block AOL) ++Lar: t/c 00:41, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You need one of these[edit]

This user supports
Kylu for ArbCom.

pschemp | talk 05:10, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that bumperstickers are a good idea. Haven't decided yet. ++Lar: t/c 12:04, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bumper stickers are a great idea!

Issues on my talk page[edit]

Hi Lar,

As you know I'm a bit busy at the moment. There's a few unresolved adminy type issues on my talk page, would you be so kind as to deal with any you can for me? Cheers mate. --kingboyk 18:32, 27 November 2006 (UTC) Steve.[reply]

Which ones, mate? I can try... but need some clues as to which. I'm pretty busy too, !campaigning for Steward and stuff :) ++Lar: t/c 19:05, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I took my best shot, if you think there are more, please email me with which... hope that helps. ++Lar: t/c 21:19, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article Fairmont Preparatory Academy was deleted, with an earlier copyright violation cited as an issue in justifying the deletion. The article was heavily modified to address the copyright issues, but the GFDL issues remain. I would like to request undeletion and creation of a user version of this article, so that it can be further expanded and can address the copyright problems. Please let me know if you need any additional information regarding this request. Alansohn 17:53, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have reviewed this article and concur that it is suitable for undeletion and userification to your userspace so you can work on it to correct the issues raised during the AfD. I have so userified it to User:Alansohn/Fairmont Preparatory Academy. Good luck. ++Lar: t/c 18:20, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Beatles Newsletter 008[edit]

If you want to set it up I will fill in as much as I am able from the usual sources - I find that my contributions usually galvanises someone else into correcting them. I am not at all upset, despondent nor irritated that no-one cared to ask me if I could get back in the saddle, and I think you should be aware of this! ;) LessHeard vanU 20:42, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hadn't gone round to all the Usual Suspects to drum up an editor... glad you turned up!... the page has been set up at Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles/Outreach/Newsletter/Issue 008 by using the template, which needed a small tweak. Have at it! ++Lar: t/c 21:21, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've done what I can. If you have the time to review it, please do. If not, just give yourself the distributor tag (leaving me with the sole editorship) and send it out - all mistakes are thus mine. LessHeard vanU 22:37, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'll give it a boo and see what I can do, thanks for stepping up, mate. ++Lar: t/c 22:54, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't have time to review it, just send it out as is. Have me as sole ed, so any flak gets directed at me - no problem.LessHeard vanU 23:00, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I *will* review it and send it out, but it may not be Right Away. ++Lar: t/c 04:05, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Threat to wp editor on external forum[edit]

Hey. Along the lines of "Defend Each Other", Solidpoint (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) made a threat of bodily harm to editor SWATJester in an external forum (See ANI thread [1]). It would appear that an indef block on Solidpoint for the threat is called for. I'm dropping this on a few admins talk's to try and resolve quickly, though it's on ANI now. Thanks. Georgewilliamherbert 21:32, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I am queasy unless it has been demonstrated they are the same person, and would not place the block, but would support a fellow admin if they so judged it to be needful. We usually do not do things because of things done externally. But I have wondered if that was a wise policy or not, and am not sure. ++Lar: t/c 22:28, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hi, I found you through Category:Wikipedia administrators who will provide copies of deleted articles, and I was wondering if I could get a copy of the Qpawn article that was recently deleted. I, personally, think it deserves a chance, and I was in the process of digging up other references/sources when the article was deleted. Of course, I hadn't thought to copy the page myself before it was taken down. --Jemiller226 23:41, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, may I add, the layout of your user page is really cool. I might be forced to mercilessly crib it in order to clean up my own page a ton bit. --Jemiller226 23:42, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be happy to consider userifying this, and will get to it shortly. Remind me if I forget (about to step away for a bit, so no time to review the article) ++Lar: t/c 00:32, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have userified this at your request. I personally think you will have a very hard time establishing notability, but based on your solid contribution record I decided to go ahead. Best of luck... remember that the page could still be put up for deletion even as a user page.. you will want to delete any inward links (Special:Whatlinkshere/Qpawn) to it as well. I deleted the redirect itself and removed the AfD notice ... ++Lar: t/c 03:00, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, no doubt it will be tough. I tried to make a case for it, though, so it's only right that I try and make it work in a way that most contributors would see it as a legitimate article. Call it penance.  :) --Jemiller226 05:12, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DYK hooks[edit]

Hi Lar. I know that you're busy these days, but I wonder if DYK hooks offered you a more convenient and time-friendly way to participate. We have experienced a huge growth in DYK participation, and now have a surplus supply (about 20 noms per day satifying basic requirements). Unfortunately, we are not the most ruthless with the hooks. I remember you were quite good at getting them in order. Would you like to help? Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:54, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, do you mean reviewing and downchecking hooks, or trying to improve them or ? I looked on the talk pages and did not see anything concrete. Let me know. It sounds like a way to get back in the swing of things a bit. ++Lar: t/c 02:43, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, cutting out the bad hooks....but if you want you could improve them....We also seem a bit short of updaters on the weekends. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:44, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'll see what I can do. it does seem a way to help that doesn't require as much free time in one chunk as an update... ++Lar: t/c 12:48, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
