Dr Iqbal Survé[edit]

Dr Iqbal Survé is a medical doctor born and tutored in the Rainbow Nation, South Africa. He used to provide health care for victims of apartheid cruelty. Those whom he helped included prisoners of the iniquitous Robben Island. This gained him the name “Struggle Doctor”. In February of 1990, Nelson Mandela was released from Robben Island and also became one of Dr Iqbal’s patients. In 1997, three years after Nelson Mandela became the first black President of South Africa, he called for black professionals to enter the conventional economy of the country. It was time to bring about a significant change in the social and economic landscape, in order to amend the economic legacy of apartheid.

Sekunjalo[edit]

Dr. Survé, although practicing medicine at the time, decided to take this call seriously. The Doctor left medicine and founded the Sekunjalo Group, which is today wholly owned by the Survé family. Since its inception, Sekunjalo has grown to become one of Africa’s most successful Investment Holding Groups with a notable portfolio of 176 investments and a net asset value exceeding $3.5 billion. The Group’s Investment Portfolio includes Oil and Gas, Food, Fishing, Aquaculture, Power, Resources, Transport and Mobility, Telecoms, Civil Security and Defence, Media, Technology, Bio-Technology, Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals and Asset Management.

Sekunjalo is today also a member of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and Dr Survé frequently contributes to and participates in the Davos and Summer Davos meetings. Furthermore, the WEF has recognized Sekunjalo as one of the world’s fastest growing companies aka The New Champions. Sekunjalo pioneers a number of social impact investment initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Investing in Africa through Media[edit]

The Survé family and Sekunjalo are committed to the story of Africa’s growth, and as a result have invested in media on the African continent. Sekunjalo acquired the largest print and online media group in South Africa, Independent Media [1] This media group has 20 major titles, more than 6 million daily print readers and 3 million online viewers. The Survé family and Sekunjalo have funded and are committed to (amongst many others) two significant initiatives: the launch of The African Independent, the first print newspaper to be spread continent wide (distributed to 40 countries in Africa) which is complemented by its online website [2].Their second major initiative is the launch of The African News Agency (ANA) [3], the first news and content syndication service by Africans addressed to Africans and a global audience.

These two initiatives, the African Independent (AI) & the African News Agency (ANA) now reach a global audience of more than a billion people, on print, digital and mobile. ANA recently placed a minority shareholding of 10% with international investors at a company estimation of a billion dollars (six months after its launch).

Survé Family Foundation[edit]

The Survé Family Foundation’s philanthropy focus is mainly in Africa. The Foundation’s programs are committed towards: improving the rights of children and young people, woman’s development, music and educational initiatives for young people from less privileged communities. The Foundation’s programs over the last decade have impacted directly on more than 30 million people. The Foundation supports many global initiatives including the Clinton Global Initiative and the African Leaders Initiative.

Welcome![edit]

Hello, Leandre de Bruyn, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited was Sekunjalo Investments, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
