Anti americanism[edit]
How is it full of crap that no one believes? Have you seen the flag burnings, the effigies, the death threats, the Americans kidnapped? Anti-americanism exists and is pretty severe. It is so severe enought that a friend I had that used to have an American flag on their bookbag removed it for the first time when they visited England. England of all places is considered dangerous enough to not risk wearing an American flag; this is the world we live in now. Hate like this does not come out of thin air, it is directly and indirectly linked to rise of nationalism due to mistakes by the USA that generated more nationalism. - I don't understand your logic in adding unsourced pro-American statements into an anti-American article. The article's purpose is to inform the reader of why people have anti-american feeling and how it is manifested. This explanation is inherently going to point out hypocrisies and injustices of the USA. A criticism section would be acceptable if you could back it up like the rest of this article. This article is among the article I've seen with the most references and notes and that is why it is up for consideration as a Good Article and might have even passed it. A good reference stating things like the hypocrisy of countries hating America even when they are your best trade partner (Venezuela and Iran come to mind) would be perfect since it turns around the claims made of USA hypocrisy. Try researching the subject and maybe tone down some pro-American rhetoric since there are bound to be rabid anti-americans (like the aboved mentioned) patrolling an anti-america article. Baha'i faith[edit]
Heya, response to your post on my discussion page. Yeah, I'm a Baha'i, and I figured I could answer some of your questions. The website for the faith is www.bahai.org . I'm not actually the best guy to ask about this kinda stuff (I'm just not all that good at it!) but I'll try. The Baha'i faith has about 6 million members spread all over the world. There are something like 120,000 of us here in the US. We are a monotheistic religion who believe in a concept called "Progressive Revelation" which states that we see many of the founders and prophets of other world religions to be manifestations of God of which the latest was Baha'u'llah, a 19th century Iranian.
We don't have any "churches" so to speak, as we aren't Christians. Instead, we have Baha'i centers, which you should be able to find in pretty much every major city in the US. Just look up "Baha'i center" in the area you live in. As far as the House of Worship in IL, there are actually a small number of those all over the world, also in Panama, Germany, Samoa, India, Uganda, Australia and we're building one in Chile right now. Used to have one in Turkmenistan, but it fell over.
Famous Baha'is...There aren't too many REALLY famous Baha'is, but the King of Samoa is, as well as Dizzy Gillespie, Seals & Crofts, the voice of the BBC, Cathy Freeman, and the daughter of the guy who made up Esperanto.

Yes I am a Baha'i. My mother became a Baha'i about the time that I was born, after investigating for several years. The community in the US is about 150 thousand, and very spread out, so there are probably Baha'is (even if not very many) in just about every city or county. Most larger cities have acquired Baha'i centers for meetings and classes. As for famous people, you can check out List of Bahá'ís, which Wikipedians have put together. Names you might recognize include Dizzy Gillespie (famous trumpet player), Seals and Crofts (band from the 70's), Burl Barer (author of The Saint, as in the movie), William Sears (TV personality), Tom Morey (invented the "boogie board"), or Khalil Greene (shortstop for San Diego Padres).
I think wikipedia is a fairly good source of information about basic Baha'i information. If you have any specific questions you can ask me and I'd be happy to answer. I think you'll find that most Baha'is are very eager to teach and talk about their religion, so feel free to ask questions. Cuñado

Hi Longhorn Johnny - sorry to wait a few days - I've been away on vacation.... yes I am a Baha'i (dropping the accents)... "Role in the United States"? Hmmm... we're much like any religion by some measures, albiet only a hundred thousands members plus in the US. I'd guess one of the more destinguishing qualities of our presence could be that the Baha'is have standing as an NGO in the UN as well as some measureable history on race unity and advocacy of the equality of women and men. BTW, we do not arbitrarily hold those truths based on political affiliation - so many of the arguments you may know of from right wing vs left ewing arguments simply have no standing within a Baha'i context. I find that people often mistake our involvement in such issues with an inherently left wing approach to all matters and that's as far from the truth as saying we're inherently right wing based on other tenents of the Faith (like for example our view on homosexuality.) As for "churches in America..." - well if you check the Demographics section you will see that we are well spread out. We have many organized communities in the US - several thousand, and many of them own or rent what we call "Centers" which act somewhat like churches for us, but as you've read of the one Temple in IL, you may know we have several such Temples. And as for "famous" Baha'is - yes we have a few you might recognize.
