Help[edit]

Hi, thank you for helping me. Just a few questions, I have a picture of a newspaper that I bought from overseas (Australia), I was just wondering if it violated anything to upload the picture and place it on the articles page. Thanks Mruserbox (talk) 07:58, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, how the heck can I organise my userboxes. What is the best way to place them in catagories. Thanks again Mruserbox (talk) 07:59, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And: I have pictures of number plates that I took to show my family in the U.S what different things looked like i.e number plates. Is it illegal to upload pictures of number plates that I have taken, because the number plates are not registered to me? Thanks Mruserbox (talk) 08:27, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mruserbox and Welcome to Wikipedia! Yes, you can upload non-free/copyrighted content (e.g. a newspaper scan) to Wikipedia in the manner you wish to. Be sure that you place the text "{{non-free newspaper}}" somewhere on the file's description page and include detailed fair use rationale, outlining the file's purpose of use on Wikipedia. One way to can organize your userboxes with a wikitable (here's what I did). And no, it is not illegal to upload images of license plates. Please feel free to drop me a line if you have any other questions or are in need of assistance. Regards, FASTILY (TALK) 08:33, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Curious[edit]

Excuse me for being curious but I would love to know why an American has an interest in the obscure subject of NSW politics (acknowledging that the current premier was born in America - You're not KRISTINA -are you?). It is one of my pet topics and I am currently working on lists of members of the Legislative Assembly. When I finished I intended to do the Leaders of the Liberal Party and the speakers. I see that you have done Pat Morton so perhaps we should make contact to ensure that we don't duplicate the work. Cheers Porturology (talk) 11:54, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That is an amazing story - do you have many colleagues at OSU doing Australian - American studies? I am a part-time PhD student by my subject is Australian-Asian - particularly health and medicine. It is very interesting that the racism that Australians direct against Asians has always been palpable but I was shocked in the last few days when I have heard 2 people attack Keneally because she was born in America - our insularity has no limits. I think a (very)long term aim for wikipedia is to have articles on the 2000 or more NSW parliamentarians (but where to start) and I enjoy putting an occasional article in - as you say Parliament's site is a very good resource. Athol Richardson was a minister for health and I think it would be an achievement for each of the ministers to have an article if you are interested. Also there are still a few leaders and deputy leaders of the National party who are missing Leader of the New South Wales National Party. If you are happy I will concentrate on the missing Speakers, once I finish the lists of members. Good to hear from someone interested in NSW politics. Hi, I have thought about it but I haven't done it (that sort of thing is beyond my computer skills) - it would make things a lot easier. I live in Port Macquarie and occasionally work in Taree so Forster is in the neighbourhood, how long ago did you leave? Porturology (talk) 02:29, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What I have done in the past e.g. Ken Booth (politician) is put the highest position in the info box. State ministers with long careers tended to have multiple departments which makes putting all of them into an info box either difficult or unaesthetic. Succession boxes are also difficult because the names and responsibilities for all except the most basic of departments keep changing - e.g. Minister for Public Works was a key position until the 1970s but it is only with a great deal of digging in the List of New South Wales government agencies that you will find it is now the responsibility of the Minister for Commerce. I guess we can only do our best. Porturology (talk) 03:00, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

Nice try (and some kudos due for your ingenuity), but I have blocked you as a sockpuppet of a blocked user. This sort of ongoing behaviour is not going to do you any favours in getting unblocked on one of them - my suggestion would be to stop for a while - say 2 or 3 months - decide on one account, and request it be activated for you per WP:OFFER.
