Alternative Pop-Rock[edit]

First, there was a {{db-copyvio}} tag applied to the article at the time I deleted it. As a rule, I do not list the infringed site in my deletion summaries. What I found was that a lot of the body sentences—or sentence fragments, since a lot of the article was not in full sentences—were lifted straight from the allmusic.com article that was cited in the tag.

Second, the speedy deletion policy sets the criteria where an admin may delete an article without any other advance notice. Speedy deletion requests are just methods for non-admins to alert admins to articles that are candidates for speedy deletion. Copyright violation is one of the instances where I will err on the side of legal safety and delete quickly. (I also delete attack articles on sight, if they can't be salvaged.) If it were, say, a notability issue, I might leave the page tagged and discuss on the talk page, or help make a user subpage out of it so they can work on the article. —C.Fred (talk) 00:37, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was kidding, I knew you were joking (well, I assumed you just heard it in The Simpsons), but I knew you were kidding. That was one of the rare times where I even used a smiley. --- Realest4Life 00:59, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Noticed your edit to italicize those words in your message at the top of your talk page. It might be more noticeable if you bold them instead. Anyways, happing editing. :) -WarthogDemon 01:46, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cuba[edit]

Thanks. I really don't know why I didn't do it. I'm off to Cuba in August for 21 days, to do some geneology research and to do more research on my articles that were AfD. I've gone to Cuba 11 times so far and my opinions are not necessarly the typical Cuban exile positions, but I believe that people should not judge others until they have done research on the subject. Thanks for your imput. Callelinea 04:14, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw your comment on the AfD for this article, and I just wanted to express my conviction that screaming and overtone singing are completely different phenomena which are used in totally different musical genres. I have added a number of sources to the screaming article in hopes that it will now be considered reliably sourced. Chubbles 21:53, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That wouldn't have been Melissa Cross, would it? She's mentioned in the article...I can see how the techniques involved might on a basic level be similar, but since the genres of throat singing and heavy metal are so wildly different, culturally, aesthetically, and stylistically, I think they definitely deserve different articles in the same way that classical piano and piano rock have different ones. Chubbles 22:19, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, the content on Last Rights Tour was little enough that it could be merged into the main Skinny Puppy article, and should Skinny Puppy become to large, as information from other tours is written, then a separate tours page could be split off into another page. It did not seem that there was enough content to justify a full page, so until there would be enough it makes sense to merge them into the main article. Prodego talk 01:32, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The consensus of the AfD was to merge the tour together into one page, the exact title of that page is not important. If you read the comments, you will see "Merge all the Skinny Puppy tour articles into a single article", and "Merge all tours into one article". All I did was chose a page, based on what seemed most suitable for the article. That said, I do not care where the tours content resides, and if you feel it would be an improvement, split the page. However, if you make a 'tours' article, it will have to be much more carefully written as to follow the notability guidelines then a section of a page would. Replaceable fair use Image:Ogre.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Ogre.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 11:46, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. Sorry if my automated message seemed curt. On Wikipedia, an image is "non-free" if it's copyrighted and not explicitly released under a free license. (Almost all the images you find on the Web are non-free.) We can only use non-free images under a strict set of criteria. The first of these is, if a free image exists or could be created that could replace this image, then we can't use the non-free image. For example, a non-free photo of a music band that's still together or a musician who's still alive would probably be replaceable, since someone could photograph them and release the new photo under a free license. It isn't enough to show that no free image exists now -- you would have to show that it would not be reasonably possible for anyone to create a new image that would be usable for the same purpose in the same article. Sorry. – Quadell (talk) (random) 02:15, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Thebravery.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Thebravery.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:01, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:AmishRakeFightlogo.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:42, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Notability of The Dirt Merchants[edit]

The article The Dirt Merchants has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Fair use rationale for Image:Pamandersonroast.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Pamandersonroast.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Metropolis-SMG.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Metropolis-SMG.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ohgr-welt lg.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Ohgr-welt lg.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. 27[edit]

Stumbling through the "What links here" of Aaron Turner, I found that you've sandboxed an article on 27. You planning on releasing it into the fray? Seegoon (talk) 00:32, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well you can tell that I didn't search like crazy to find that. I've given it a once-over - feel free to revert away! Seegoon (talk) 00:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:MiddlePillar logo.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:MiddlePillar logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:25, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
