Women neuroscientists

Hi, I see you have been adding this category to a lot of bios. Let me say, first of all, that I find this cat mildly offensive, as if the natural state of a neuroscientist is male and we need to attract attention to the fact that there are exceptions... Thanks for the comment and for correcting my error! My edits are part of an editathon at my university intended to increase and improve the representation of women in neuroscience on Wikipedia, so I was going down a list assembled by that group when I made my recent edits. I apologize for not checking more carefully, and will definitely double check everything in the future!

There is certainly a thoughtful discussion to be had regarding the value of calling out women scientists specifically rather than just listing them as part of a broader category of neuroscientists. We feel that highlighting notable women is valuable for younger women scientists seeking role models and mentors. Furthermore, given that many conferences, etc., still suffer from underrepresentation of women in invited talks and panels, we feel that collecting a list of notable women neuroscientists in one place provides a useful resource for folks trying to increase the representation of women. Finally, for our own purposes as a women in science group, this category helps us focus our efforts as we continue to tackle Wikipedia's long-standing "women problem" and improve these pages (many are still stubs, poorly referenced, etc. -- we're working on it!) Well, I belong to the weaker sex myself (X-chromosomally challenged, statistically likely to die years earlier...), but if I were a woman, I would feel insulted if my gender would be used to identify me, but then, I'm very much an individualist and don't want to be identified by my nationality, ethnicity , or gender. Anyway, I'll stop ranting. Expanding scientist bios is very much welcome, most of them (men and women) are woefully inadequate.
