Page Review[edit]

It looks like you're off to a great start. However, you only have a few sentences thus far. Instead of using a bold heading to start your overview, just bold the (Rasta Cahe 71 in the paragraph text and start there. You can use a heading for the next section (History, Famous Figures, Controversy, etc). Your paragraph also doesn't give a very comprehensive overview of the gesture. Maybe add a sentence about the importance of gestures in general communication. The bulk of the paragraph also shouldn't be who uses the gesture. Also, take out the part about Kid Kudi being "the man on the moon". It's irrelevant to your topic, and who cares really.

Once you get information, be sure to cite your sources. If you don't, wikipedia will delete your page. It's also really the only way to validate your research. Pictures are also incredibly important to making an article seem legitimate. Just remember that you need to cite pictures as well. You can't just pull one off of Google images and use it that way.

The first thing that stands out to me about this page is that you seem to focus more on Kid Cudi's use of the gesture than actually talking about the gesture itself. I would suggest that you fix this by taking all mentions of Cudi out of the introduction. If you could find other instances of people who are not related to Star Trek using the gesture, you could create a subtopic about the gesture's use outside of the show and include him under that.

There's such a huge fan base for Star Trek that I'd think you could find some sort of information about how the show's writers came up with the gesture. I'd check out some fan sites and other sources besides Wikipedia, so you're pulling in new information rather than recycling information within the site. Star Trek's been around a while, so I wouldn't be surprised if the library had a few books about it.

The article thus far is a bit confusing - is it about the Live Long and Prosper sign, or Kid Cudi? There are already Wikipedia pages for both. Also, "Vulcan salute," "Kid Cudi," etc, should be linked to the actual articles rather than listed as sources. There is a bit of bias in the article as well. I certainly wouldn't say that Kid Cudi's use of the Vulcan salute is the "most common." Try to be more impartial and perhaps just say that Kid Cudi has been highly recognized for his use of the gesture or something along similar lines.

This seems like a fine start but there really needs to be much more research involved and a clearer purpose for your article. What is it about? I would concentrate on first making your purpose clear and then work on being comprehensive and unbiased. Once you have a good amount written, start considering how to make the actual writing better. I noticed a few minor grammatical errors, but nothing serious. And finally, make sure to follow the Wikipedia guidelines (such as the linking I mentioned earlier).

Even though you only have several sentences about Kid Cudi's use of the hand gesture, I think once you add more information and structure to this page, it will be great! Adding more information about the hand gesture itself and not just Kid Cudis use of it would be appropriate. I think there are many more sources for your topic other than the one's you've listed (wikipedia), just make sure you cite them. Also, I believe it would be beneficial if you added pictures to grab the searches eye and which will make your page more appealing. I think once you add some more information and organize, your group will have a great page.

I found this entry to be simple yet informative. It covers the most basic foundation of the sign used in Star Trek. I think that it’s nice to get straight to the point with the origins of the sign. It also gives a little bit of information about how the sign is used presently, giving a little bit of information about the social significance of the sign. Obviously this entry is lacking in length. The information definitely needs to be expanded upon. It also has good resources showing examples of the use of the sign. I would suggest looking into where the symbol originated for Star Trek and what it truly means. I do like the simplicity but it needs more information and writing.Psjenest (talk) 03:30, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If your intent is to make comments about an article, there is a talk page for each article where you may do so. Normally, I would move your comment from the article page to Talk:Darts. However, since you are working on a school assignment, I am not moving the text—you will need to place your comment there yourself. You can go to this old version of the article to copy your text to move, however. —C.Fred (talk) 15:11, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
