Vandalism/Blocking Policy[edit]

I have a question that you may be able to help me with. If an ip has vandalized in, say, December, up until his/her final warning, then stops vandalizing and posts sparingly until February, where he/she begins vandalizing again, should the ip then go through the four warning levels again, or should they be immediately listed for a block? Kntrabssi 22:09, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's an interesting one. Ordinarily I would suggest that a block would be justified. However, I've been through the edit history of User:67.142.130.22 (I'm assuming this is "your" vandal?) and there have been good edits come from that IP as well as the vandalism. From that I'm guessing there's more than one person using the same computer; one's a good, upstanding Wikipedian and the other is a vandal. It wouldn't be fair to block the good editors along with the bad. I'll leave a suggestion on the IP address's talk page for legitimate users to get an account. Reyk 06:33, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's the one. I suppose that would be the best idea. Thanks for your help! Kntrabssi 13:12, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

you think your so smart[edit]

hahaha your not

  • Yeah, your so not smart, that the former doesn't even need to use the right "you're" in either of his sentences!!! :-p Kntrabssi 04:57, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising[edit]

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:26, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm not fussed, really, if the thing stays a WikiProject or if it moves to MetaWiki. But I'll oppose deletion to the death. Reyk 06:02, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AFD[edit]

Hi there,

This concerns Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mike Daisey, where you recently voiced an opinion. User:Calton has raised some significant objections, and I would like to ask if you wouldn't mind considering the ensuing discussion and changing or confirming your choice with respect to the article Mike Daisey. Sincerely ENCEPHALON 07:06, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD[edit]

Based on what I've seen from you on AfD, I think that you might have something to add to the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cart00ney. I'd appreciate you weighing in on the matter in either direction. Savidan 19:46, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • No problems. Reyk 06:12, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aussie Sport Wikiprojects[edit]

You may consider joining WP:AFL and WP:CRIC. Thanks DaGizzaChat © 07:29, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Already joined Cricket, heading over to AFL now. Cheers. Reyk 07:46, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stubs[edit]

I already put the related geography stub template, thanks. Please correct the articles without this template, if you see any of them --Alperen 14:44, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've done a few, but there's zillions of them. I'll get back to it when I have a bit of time. Reyk 14:52, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for edit summary[edit]

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 39% for major edits and 59% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits outside the Wikipedia, User, Image, and all Talk namespaces.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear inpolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 04:33, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reg Hickey[edit]

In case you don't read it on my talk page, I've fixed up some of the general vocab to make reading abit easier/smoother, and added in some new info. Nothing major.

That being said, a good article nonetheless. Glad to see some people appreciating the great men that built our club.

Cheers, Boomtish 07:29, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent work on the rewrite. Reyk 07:30, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, your redirects West Ascot Vale, Victoria and West Ascot Vale pointed to nowhere. I've changed them to Ascot Vale, Victoria; I'm assuming that's what you intended. Cheers Quarl (talk) 2006-02-27 05:55Z

RfC FourthAve[edit]

I've initiated an RfC for FourthAve due to personal attacks stemming from, Bob Vander Plaats among other atricles. If you agree with the request and think it proper, could you sign for certification? - Jaysus Chris 09:41, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A minor disagreement[edit]

  • My appologies for the next post, I completely misread what you said. It was actually quite funny, and I agree completely. I am a jackass. I would remove what I posted, but I feel it is more appropriate to leave as a monument to my idiocy. Sorry man! Not my leg 22:09, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • No worries. Reyk 00:08, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is unfortunate that you opted to express your disagreement with me by saying my decision "sucks." I can appreciate that you feel the article should have been should be speedied, and it is fortunately exceptionally easy to remove my prod and add a speedy tag. I, however, did not feel it clearly fit into the speedy criteria (nonsense, empty, nocontext, bio, test, attack, notenglish, from a banned user, copyvio, repost, or vandalism), yet I also felt it would be an uncontroversial delete, so I prodded it. You obviously disagree, and being relatively inexperienced myself, I am more than willing to humbly defer to you, the more seasoned wikipedian. My point, however, is that while I welcome your posting on my talk page and letting me know you have a difference of opinion, I only desire that you would avail yourself of the myriad options which the English language provides for expressing your profound disagreement, rather than use the inelegantly pedestrian "it sucks." Alas, to each his own. Not my leg 21:52, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dr Yousef Haj-Ahmad[edit]

What happened there? It appeared to me as if the article had already been deleted, so I closed the discussion. Bobby1011 05:30, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know. I must have mistyped the dude's name; thus the red link. But I could have sworn I copied & pasted the name from the top of the page. Ah well. No harm done. Reyk 05:34, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Request for Arbitration[edit]

Due to the continued, wilfull violation of WP:NPA and WP:NPOV by FourthAve, I have asked the Arbitration Committee to investigate his actions. I have listed you as an involved party because you have been a target of FourthAve's behavior. The RFA can be found here. Please leave a statement if you are so inclined. - Jaysus Chris 11:30, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MGIB[edit]

I do not mind the Redirect, of course what are the odds someone will type for example: Chapter 30 to get chapter 30 from a book, lol. Also how do you like my user page, and how I seamlessly navigate from each wikiplatform? Paul.Paquette

Ads[edit]

hello.user im new to site i dont understant why you are against the ads noting there are some people working for this website in a daily basis and getting nothing by doing that they are destroing their carrers, job, marriages, studies as well because they take a lot of time editing articles as well even divorcing from one sposal because dont pay enough attention to the family as they are wiki addict.now is time to turn this site to a profit website in order to give real jobs to everybody even wikipedians.and emprove its quality as well. user:felisberto23,march2006(UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the welcome. I doubt that I'll contribute as much as you do, but I'll try to live up to Wiki's principles. Fitzaubrey 08:02, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • No problems. Heh, the only reason I contribute so much is that I have a lot of interests and very little social life. Reyk 08:35, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • You and me both. It's a great way to be! (grin) By the way, thanks for the copy edit on Tiktaalik. Anville 13:01, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Catneeded[edit]

I have visited the Category:Category needed and I add a category when I can think of one. However, yesterday I went through the Uncategorized pages and, in many cases, could not think of a proper category (and found couple of copyvios as well). Hence the sudden influx. Sorry about that. - Skysmith 21:26, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't think...[edit]

I didn't even think to think that she might have a userpage<g>. (Probably because she signed manually). I have made it so. - Nunh-huh 05:52, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AFL season article naming convention[edit]

As a participant of WikiProject AFL I thought you might be interested in this. I have started a vote to get a consensus on the naming convention for AFL season articles. You can participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject AFL#AFL season article naming convention. Cheers. Remy B 13:23, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Attribution[edit]

It's probably because I reverted the page a little before you did. It happens frequently when a page has been recently vandalized, especially one that has a high profile. -- Kjkolb 02:43, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cities of New South Wales[edit]

I just thought you should know that {{db-nonsense}} tag you added to Cities of New South Wales at 15:36, April 26, 2006 was removed by Aussiepounce99 at 15:40, April 26, 2006. The article has since been improved, but I thought you might want to know that the tag was removed without any discussion. I don't know Wiki-policy that well but I though this might be a bit sus. Blarneytherinosaur 00:40, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's OK. I generally keep an eye on articles I tag for deletion, and I'm not usually too fussed if someone reverts something I do if there's an obvious good reason for doing it. But it's good that someone is paying attention to what's going on around here. Cheers. The El Reyko 07:06, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. Blarneytherinosaur 04:00, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/FourthAve/Evidence

Right now, I'm just collecting evidence. I will be reviewing all of your edits and all of your mail. Reply there or talk to Admin User talk:Tony Sidaway.

It's not that I think you are a troll, but the issue is Republican Capitol Hill staffers vandalizing political articles and my deplorable response to what I thought this was an example.

If you have additional thoughts, talk to me. --FourthAve 08:26, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is only recently that I have learned that wiki is wholly public. All of one's edits are public, as is your mail. Are you a GWBush-lover?

This arbitration case has closed. FourthAve is banned from Wikipedia for a year, and is placed on personal attack parole, probation, and general probation. This will be enforced by block. I have carried out the one-year-ban in my capacity as an administrator. For further details, please see the arbitration case. On behalf of the arbitration committee, Johnleemk | Talk 15:48, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Patent nonsense[edit]

Please don't tag things as patent nonsense that aren't. Patent nonsense only refers to total gibberish, such as alsk;djJKK:JKJ;kjazs v89c*(***!!!!LKNL. No matter how poorly formatted the text is, if it's legible, it's not patent nonsense. Snoutwood (talk) 22:47, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, criterion 2 for Patent Nonsense says this: Content that, while apparently meaningful after a fashion, is so completely and irredeemably confused that no intelligent person can be expected to make any sense of it whatsoever., which certainly applies to the article I tagged.
