!Gaxas…

A name given to the farm situated 15 km (9 mi) from Karibib and 15 km (9 mi) from Usakos. The name !Gaxas derives from the damara word “!Ga” which means smoke. The idea behind the name was that in the early days the people used wood for fire, not only to cook but also used as a source for light and warmth. The smoke from fire is known as !Ga in Damara.

The farm is owned by Mr. Herman Cosack and his wife Mrs. Cosack who are German citizens that only come to Namibia to checkup on the farm and enjoy Namibia’s wonders. They employed loyal Mr. Betuel !Auchab as foreman since 1973. He has given his heart and soul for this farm.His wife Mrs. Ottile !Auchas commutes from Usakos to the farm to carry out minor cleaning duties to the main house. This farm has been shelter and breathing space for many. Mr. !Auchab’s children and his grandchildren grew up here. Some of his children also had their wedding receptions on the farm. This piece of land mentioned is land that has a wide great meaning to the !Auchab Generation.
