August 2023[edit]

Hello, I'm AgisdeSparte. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person, Rube Goldberg, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. AgisdeSparte (talk) 14:32, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to W. Heath Robinson, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Stop removing that maintenance tag. If we are claiming that "Heath Robinson contraption" was published in a dictionary ca. 1912 then it is perfectly valid to ask which dictionary. Without such a reference I dispute the claim that it was published in a dictionary. It is not sufficient to simply give a reference that claims that it was published in an unnamed dictionary ca 1912. I don't don't dispute that your reference says that. I also dispute the claim that it was published in the OED in 1917. Yes the refs say that, butt hey are wrong. Vol V of the OED(H-K) was published in 1901 (not 1917) and the term does not appear in it. It also does not appear in the corrected reissue of 1933. The first quotation the current OED lists for "Heath Robinson" (not "Heath Robinson contraption" is from 1917. That is not the same as the term appearing in the OED. The first quotation the current OED lists for "Heath Robinson contraption" is from 1934 (not 1917) and again, that is not the same as the term actually appearing in the OED.
