U.S. Army Futures Command

I'll be honest. The fact that the Army has yet to nominate a new commanding general, leads me to think that they are downgrading the command, but I haven't been able to find any sources that support that so...🤷 shrug. Neovu79 (talk) 13:08, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

I wouldn't necessarily say that, especially since there are (not including the acting Commander), not one, not two, but three 3-star Deputy CGs. LTG James Richardson has been acting CG for 192 days at the time of me typing this. Ironically, his wife then LTG (now GEN) Laura Richardson, served as acting FORSCOM CG for 154 days. While I do think TRADOC is more likely. I do think Brito could be getting Futures Command because as a BG, he served as "Director, Force 2025 and Beyond Directorate, Army Capabilities Integration Center". At the time, the Army Capabilities Integration Center was part of TRADOC, but its elements are now part of Futures Command. EPMen (talk) 23:10, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

EPMan well I finally found a couple of sources that states that Army Futures Command will remain a four-star command, here and here, However funding is planning to be cut and mission priorities are being redefined. List of active duty United States four-star officers

Wow... There's going to be an uproar over the fact that the Navy keeps suffering net losses in four-stars for joint commands. I would suspect that the Navy will get Northern Command this year, or Cyber Command next year. Neovu79 (talk) 11:22, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

Considering I'm a bit biased towards the Navy, I share those feelings somewhat. Hope Navy will get Northern Command, though from what I've been reading Lt Gen Timothy D. Haugh is being groomed to succeed GEN Nakasone at USCYBERCOM, so no dice for cyber. It'll be even worse if Navy loses their long-held monopoly on USINDOPACOM, because I have a feeling LTG Ronald P. The Navy's pretty thin on four-stars, lol, and with a lot of them retiring, they would have to dig into their three-stars. USNORTHCOM is usually an aviation community officer, so from the three-star pool, VADM Kenneth R. Whitesell would top my list. The recent success of Top Gun: Maverick may possibly make him a popular choice. VADM Sara A. Joyner would have been a prime candidate, if she wasn't just promoted to three-star this month. @Neovu79 @SuperWIKI I disagree about Whitesell being the top Navy candidate for NORTHCOM. Paparo is a stronger possibility in my opinion, if the fuel leak scandal doesn't hold him back (I doubt it will since the problems started long before he assumed command). Even though he is a submariner and not an aviator, I think Caudle is also a strong Navy possibility for NORTHCOM, as Fleet Forces Command is the Navy's component of NORTHCOM. Army GEN Charles Jacoby is the only non-pilot to lead NORTHCOM so far and I think I remember that Admiral Grady was considered for NORTHCOM before the job went to VanHerck. @EPMen: The commander of USNORTHCOM is traditionally an aviation community officer due the commander being dual-hatted as Commander of NORAD. The USNORTHCOM/NORAD houses the largest continental air force and missile defense force out of all of the territorial unified combatant commands due to the U.S.'s joint partnership with Canada. NORAD is traditionally an Air Force command. It is highly unlikely this administration would nominate an officer with no experience in aerial or missile defense. Also I don't recall the Navy submitting a person for NORTHCOM because it was decided very early on that VanHerck would be the nominee. Neovu79 (talk) 02:55, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

(of note: Major Generals Alford, Donovan, Glynn, and Turner are all "in transit" as far as we know (never heard anything about Glynn having retired; but you did remove him). I bet one of them has succeeded Benedict as CENTCOM J5 (it has always been a Marine since at least 2012), but I don't have the guts to reach out to CENTCOM Public Affairs and ask). Nomination vs Assignment

I recommend you note the difference between nomination and assignment. I noted VADM Karl Thomas had been nominated for assignment as N2/N6 and you changed it to say he had already been assigned to the position. So, per today's POLITICO Playbook, it looks Senator Tuberville is holding up a lot of nominees. I wish they would change the rules so that only 3-star and 4-star nominees even need a vote, as pretty much all large lists (from O-4 and up, sometime even lower) are decided by each service and approved by the Senate merely as a formality. @SuperWIKI @KingEdinburgh @Neovu79

Speaking of of the Air Force, I think Lt. General Schneider could be a dark horse to be deep selected from the 3-star ranks to be CSAF. He's served in every theater and served as Aide-de-Camp to the CSAF back in the day (on 9/11 actually). It would be quite something if Biden nominated female leaders for the Navy, Air Force, and Army. Not that it would be bad by any means, but I definitely worry about Republican attacks. Franchetti is a near shoe-in for the Navy but didn't realize Van Ovost was the clear frontrunner for the Air Force. And Richardson has a chance to be CSA. Audio files uploaded to Wikimedia Commons

I saw the comment you left on Los Pajaros’s talk page. A voice file they had uploaded to Wikimedia Commons was just deleted. Would you happen to know whether a video file uploaded to YouTube by "an archive of a Trump Administration account maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)" is in the public domain? I would assume so since it is a video created by the WH, and that it would be legal to record 2 minutes of audio from it. Do you know whether it is? I address the issue in more detail on LosPajaros's talk page. As for your file, it likely falls under the POTUS template. Be sure to check the video though - sometimes it is pulled wholesale from another copyright owner! The file LosPajaros used for the Angus King page was pulled from a C-SPAN programme (the C-SPAN logo is present throughout, and it wasn't a floor proceeding), but I would note that a congressperson's personal office has only a limited number of staffers to keep track of things compared to an official governmental office like the Executive Office of the President of the United States, so it's probably an honest mistake on their part. See this section of LosPajaros's talk page for their way of extracting audio clips. C-SPAN allows its registered online users to pull short clips from its (usually long) videos, at a limited number of clips per month, which can be downloaded. I imagine LosPajaros has used this. As for me, I use OBS Studio to screen-record the portion of the C-SPAN video that I want. This is easy and difficult at the same time - OBS Studio is intuitive but since it has no option to record individual browser tabs, I have to do everything in my power to prevent other computer system or notification sounds from interfering. Afterwards, I trim the recorded video, convert it online to .ogg format, and clean and reduce track noise with Audacity before uploading to Wikimedia Commons.

I generally don't record House or Senate floor speeches over 15 minutes unless the speech is historically significant or pertains to major legislation or surrounding events. For example, Chuck Schumer's floor speech after the September 11 attacks. As the senior senator from New York (Hillary Clinton having succeeded Daniel Patrick Moynihan earlier that year), I felt his remarks should be preserved on Wikimedia Commons for posterity, and even be used on his Wikipedia page. The latter I leave to other users to add, if they wish; I don't want to be accused of liberal addition of audio files on Wikipedia pages.

To clarify, the Angus King track was pulled from the senator's official YouTube channel maintained by his congressional staff. The video, however, was a blatant clip from a C-SPAN broadcast that wasn't on the floor of either chamber, not anything resembling an official message from King's office. Many 1-star and no 3-star or 4-star, but enough Army 2-star changes that I've determined which current 2-stars will be retiring if they don't get re-assigned. This is my list of all 2-stars who will be retiring if not promoted or reassigned. Of this list, the ones I would think are most likely to be retiring are MG Maranian, MG Russell, and MG Tyler. Others on the list could be possible as well. MG Smith has a 2022 DOR, so probably will be reassigned (possibly to MG Hoyle's current role after she gets promoted). Either MG Holland or MG Whittle will probably get promoted to be the next Chief of Engineers and whichever one doesn't will likely retire.

Between MG Michele Bredenkamp and MG Hale, they could be in line for promotion with both Deputy Chief of Staff G-2 and Military Advisor to the Director of National Intelligence likely turning over. But MG Michele Bredenkamp's husband (MG Trevor Bredenkamp) is a strong candidate to take over command of a division over the summer, so I wonder how that could play into whether or not his wife gets promoted.

As I've said for a while, MG Mennes could be promoted to lead the First Army, as could other 2-stars on this list who have commanded divisions (MG Lesperance and MG McFarlane). But Lesperance and McFarlane likely won't be relinquishing their current roles until the summer, and I doubt that the First Army CG position will remain vacant all the way till then, especially since MG Landes (the acting Commander) is also being reassigned.

@SuperWIKI Just saw this now. Anyways, another busy nomination day. Here's today's additions to the above list of stars who will be retiring if not promoted or reassigned. MG Evans has a 2022 DOR, so almost certainly not retiring. Could very well become CG of a division.

RADM Cheever and RADM Pitts likely retiring. The only 3-star possibility for RADM Cheever is Commander, Naval Air Forces/ Naval Air Forces Pacific. I doubt RADM Sweeney or RADM Kirk are retiring since they have a 2021 DOR, but I don't see any obvious positions for them. RADM Wettlaufer is more than likely retiring, but if he isn't, he'll likely get N4 on the Navy Staff (no precedent of a Military Sealift Command Commander becoming N4, but they'd definitely be qualified). RADM Yvette Davids could possibly become Superintendent of the Naval Academy, as she would be the first woman and first person of color to be Superintendent. Deputy Commander, US Fleet Forces Command is also a possibility for her. RADM Gray will likely take over Navy Installations Command. RADM McLane will likely take over Naval Surface Forces/ Naval Surface Forces Pacific, but Deputy Commander, US Fleet Forces Command is also in the realm of possibility.

Either RADM Gumbleton or RADM Skillman will become the N8 on the Navy Staff, with RADM Gumbleton being more likely since Skillman has an earlier DOR and is the more likely of the two to retire. Either RADM Jablon or RADM Perry will take over Submarine Forces/ Submarine Forces Atlantic (almost guaranteed that VADM Houston will take over Naval Reactors), and RADM Jablon has an earlier DOR and is the more likely of the two to retire. Between RADM Loiselle and RADM Meier, one of them (or RADM Cheever) will likely become Commander, Naval Air Forces/ Naval Air Forces Pacific. RADM Meier has an earlier DOR and is the more likely of the two to retire, but once again, Deputy Commander, US Fleet Forces Command is also in the realm of possibility. I also think RADM Loiselle has the edge over RADM Meier since RADM Meier is a helicopter pilot while RADM Loiselle is a fighter pilot, and no helicopter pilot has been Navy Air Boss since at least 2000.

Respectfully, I have reported you before due to the policy against Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry. On your original account (where the talk page should still be editable), there was a failure to directly address in detail what got you blocked in the first place, which was adding false information. A basic apology did not address their concerns. In order for you to be able to edit again, this should be followed. Sock edits are reverted in order to ensure that such users do not deliberately use disposable accounts to ensure their edits can stay on-site.

In my first communications with you, I stated that I value your edits and want to see further communications with you and improvements in usage of English over time. My hope that you can do well here has not changed. While I am the one reporting you, any other user can do so for the same reason. It is for communications between you and an administrator, further reading of the rules, and agreements as such to allow you to keep editing. I am not on a crusade against you. I do not want to make enemies, but I cannot be expected to simply allow Wikipedia articles to be filled en masse with potentially erroneous content. Reverting edits is exhausting.

Secondly, General Charles Q. Brown Jr. is only a contender for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff position, and has not been formally nominated for the position. Being expected to be nominated does not equal actually being nominated. Like you, I also want Brown to be formally nominated, but until Congress officially reports his nomination, adding said nomination to the four-star Wikipedia page is untrue, and will be reverted either by me or another user in time. @BlackRain1989: I tried helping you before and so I will try again. If your original account is User:LemonJuice78, that account is currently blocked, indefinitely, by Acroterion. Before you can edit anywhere on Wikipedia, you first must request that account be unblocked. As long as it remains blocked, any account you create will automatically be blocked as a sock account. If you're not clear on what that is, click the link and read. Furthermore, any edit you make, regardless of how many new accounts you make, or just as an IP user, will automatically be reverted as block evasion. It doesn't matter how 'good' or 'innocent' the edit is... it will be undone. All you are doing is wasting your time and ours. On top of all that, the more accounts you create, the more you 'sock' and 'evade', the more you stretch the good will of the community. You will get to the point where you will never be unblocked and allowed to make legitimate edits again (or at least, for a very long time). You need to stop right now. Go and find something else to do (like Fandom) for say... a year. Then come back and post a sincere unblock request at LemonJuice78. Show that you have read all the relevant policies and guidelines that you have violated. List all the accounts you have created. List any IP accounts you may have used (you can do that privately). Apologize for taxing the community's time and good will, and provide a plan that shows you can contribute positively to the project, a plan that you promise to commit to. Perhaps only then you will be unblocked (maybe, I can't say for sure). If you can't do that, that is your choice. There are two things going against this. No other service, other than the Navy, has ever lead INDOPACOM. Second, if they selected an officer from another service, it will be the first time in history that a Navy officer would not lead a unified combatant command. That will never happen. I wanted history to be made. It's still possible Biden passes over this recommendation (as didn't he pass over Lt. Gen. Whiting and Lt. Gen. Shaw for Saltzman for CSO?).

I would think LTG Clark would be more likely to take over Army Pacific from GEN Flynn than go straight to INDOPACOM. Besides him, Gen. (sel) Schneider is also an INDOPACOM possibility with LtGen Jurney being a dark horse.

If ADM Paparo does indeed become CNO, VADM Koehler is the clear favorite to take over the Pacific Fleet.

I'm going back to work tomorrow so I won't able to. Generally, before this I only did the ambassadors to prominent states (and my own country, of course) - doing all of them would mean hundreds of files, and I'd get sick of it quickly.

If you want, you can screen-record the opening statements of their confirmation hearings (from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee website), convert it to OGG audio format (I use FreeConvert), and clean and cut it using Audacity (a free audio-editing tool downloadable here).

Then just upload the finished OGG file to Wikimedia Commons and add it to the module parameter of the infobox. I was initially very inexperienced, but I learnt surprisingly quickly for someone who's never edited before. SuperWIKI (talk) 18:34, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
