Speedy deletion of Dr. Ramesh Prasad Mohapatra[edit]

I vote in favor of speedy deletion of this article.

Lots of people can scrape through the eligibility criterion for notability. Every building in every American university is named after some person, whose names do not find mention in Wikipedia. In Orissa, there are many people I know personally that have received a lot more recognition than R. P. Mohapatra. I don't think they are eligible for a wikipedia page.

The section "Selected Research Articles" lists 39 research papers written by him. Every faculty in every university publishers that much, and in more significant forums. Not one of those articles was actually published in a peer-reviewed journal. If they were, I invite Tikoo_S to provide the impact factors of those journals. Books published by unknown publishers like "Cosmo Publications, Delhi," or "D. K. Publications, Delhi," are unknown. There are hundreds of such books that are much more current and up-to-date.
If R. P. Mohapatra's earning doctorates from relatively unknown universities, like Utkal University, is shown in the introductory paragraph of page, it only goes to reflect the person's insignificance.
I hope my negative comments are not misconstrued as attacks. Tikoo_S has been citing those entirely unknown publications everywhere:

These are topics that are not even closely related. A person whose expertise covers this wide a range, must be quite someone!
Either that or Tikoo_S is spamming, which I strongly believe to be the case. In fact ALL that Tikoo_S has contributed to in wikipedia is adding stuff on R. P. Mohapatra everywhere possible. I am almost certain that Tikoo_S, whose last name is also "Mohapatra", is none other than R. P. Mohapatra's son.
In December 2007, I had placed a warning in Tikoo_s's talk page. Frankly it was a headache to undo all the advertising that Tikoo_s had done

SDas (talk) I was shocked to see such an aggressive bashing without even having proper information and knowledge first hand. It is really not good at all. Everyone can be aggressive but maintaining and managing the way we conduct ourselve is a good example.

Let's come to the concerns you have. It would have really beneficial to everyone, if you could have spent some time to get to know who was Dr. R. P. Mohapatra before attacking in such a improper manner.

Coming back to Utkal University, you claim to be from Orissa and claims it to be relatively unknown University! Very strange! For your kind information it is the oldest and foremost University in Orissa. Most of the significant research work ever done on Orissan Studies is from Utkal University.

It can very well understood from your writting that you are very poorly knowledgeble on Orissa and Orissan Studies while claiming that you are from Orissa. I would like to suggest please spent some quality time in gathering knowledge before even jumping to give comments at large.

Memorial Lecture can be organized by spending money is very un-civilized comment I have come across. I request admin please take a note of it. All the scholars presented the memorial lecture are reputed people in their respected field. So it's very insulting to make a statement like this.

I have only listed few selected article out of hundred's of article written by him.Even I mayeven reduce the list in future as in Wikipedia we should not list all of them. Listing few selected one is enough.

read this book that is written by Prof. P. K. Mishra who was the former vice chancelor of North Orissa University in Baripada and former Proffessor and HOD History in Sambalpur University.

Mohapatra R. P., Military History of Orissa, Cosmo Publications, Delhi, 1986 ISBN 81-7020-282-5 has got a ISBN number so I hope it will not be any difficulty for you locating the book.

As you happen to be from Orissa. Please check with any leading book shop in India or leading library, you can get them, It is bit expensive though but worth investing to know about his work and significant contribution for Orissan Studies.

Commenting before reading and and acquiring knowledge on the subject is no way good for any one. So do not waste every one's valuable time by just giving your comment.

Personal attacks are entirely unwarranted. Utkal University is not among the top 100 universities in India, while I believe only 2 Indian universities make it to the top 100 list in Asia. As I was asked, I will only say that my publication count (books/peer reviewed publications) is well over 100 and ticking. That is the only personal information that I will disclose. I consider it inappropriate to ask a user to disclose such information. At an appropriate time, I will put up R. P. Mohapatra up for AfD. Furthermore, I'll replace citations to R. P. Mohapatra's work with more relevant ones, except where it is really appropriate.

SDas SDas (talk), I would appreciate if you refrain from Personal attack as you are doing here. I have no interest in knowing about you and your work. The way you claiming as Jack of all trades. I was wondering how come I have not come across any of your work. Anyway that does not mean you have not made any significant contribution to your choosen field. May be you are a legend!

Dr. R. P. Mohapatra had a short span of life (As he died at a comparitively young age of 49 only) during that period he made so much contribution on Orissan Studies. It really does not feel good when some one who so ignorant about Orissan studies like you make such comments. My point is why don't you first know about his work then comment. I have been repeatedly mentioning that. It will be a healthy discussion then.

Prof. K. C. Panigrahi even made him history by writing about him in his History of Orissa.

All Scholars working on Orissan Studies has very high opinion about his work and integrity.

His work not only peer reviewed but treated as source book and important authoritative reference book by Scholars all over the world, some hing you already knowing by now from the list of few sites I have provided. If you do not want to learn then no body can help.

I think it's more significant when people treat your work as athentic source work and reference it to substantiate their point.

Again it shows how you dragging the topic with irrlevant facts altogether. You try to say something you just believe without the fact and citation. S please apply the same logic what you are trying to put forward in other people's case. That way you will do good to wikipedia like some great people around doing for wikipedia as admin and motivaor, unlike you just comment on someting without even knowing about it. Each University has their own significance. To do research and field work its more important you to be on the field rather than in a developed place. His Ph. D. and D. Litt work considered as very high standard. His work speaks for itself. It again how people accepts and refer your work.


Many Scholars from outside Orissa consider him as a serious scholar and read his work and refer them as the significant source work.
