CVU Academy

"We see that you need a little more understanding of Counter-Vandalism before you're granted Rollback. The Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy exists to help users, like yourself, understand the way to identify and handle Vandalism through one-on-one instruction. Perhaps you'd like to ask a question of our instructors, or perhaps Enroll in the Academy".

CVUA Enrollment

 Done Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:14, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

You have been approved for the CVU Academy. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 17:50, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

As for now, Theopolisme will be your instructor. If he doesn't get back to you for a week, please let me know on my talk page. Also, we can train you in Twinkle and STiki, but Huggle requires rollback permission, which you will hopefully get after you complete the Academy. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:14, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey there, User:TruPepitoM! I'm busy this afternoon, but I'll be in touch sometime in the next 24 hrs. Can't wait! Theopolisme TALK 19:42, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

CVUA

Hi there! I'm really glad to be your instructor. To start things off, it'd be great if you took a look at WP:VAND, WP:WARN and WP:GAIV, and let me know if you have any questions. I'll be glad to answer them! Right now, our goal is to get you 100% familiar with "The Big Four Steps", that is Identify, Restore, Warn, Report... but ah, there is so much to do. :) Just become familiar with those articles, and then we can get started with the cool stuff. Theopolisme TALK 02:29, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

(in retrospect) I saw that you were interested in learning about Twinkle in your enrollment submission thing-a-ma-jig. Twinkle is my life and blood (see all the TW's? XD), and if you are actually interested we can totally focus on that ... ermm, after you read those things. Ah, getting ahead of myself... Sigh. Take your time. Shouldn't have had that Chocolate.... Theopolisme TALK 02:51, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Coincidentally, I just ate one, too. TruPepitoM (talk) 03:20, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
(hastily throws away chocolate wrapper) -- alrighty, just let me know when you've finished doing your "required reading", whilst I sit here and munch on my health food. Theopolisme TALK 03:34, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Please help. I have recently spotted a vandalism on Indian cuisine and I'd like to be the one to undo it. TruPepitoM (talk) 03:36, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Alright, just saw your revert (using the undo function, I presume), looks fine. Now -- on to the more interesting task -- alerting the user! A bit of a ramble: You always want to let the user in question know that they did, in fact, vandalism -- but more importantly, that you know that they vandalized - to show them that, hey, people watch this encyclopedia, and I shouldn't do this. This can be accomplished using a variety of methods - I, personally, use WP:Twinkle - do you have it installed as of now? Warning: I'm too lazy to read over what I just wrote, so if it doesn't make sense, sorry. XD Theopolisme TALK 03:42, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Odd, but true, I alerted the user before I edited to the earlier versions. Panicked, somehow. TruPepitoM (talk) 03:50, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
We had a bit of an edit conflict, but here's what I said to you right as you were replying: Just saw your warning on their userpage. Looks fine, but it's a lot easier using Twinkle or something of the like (plus, using TW allows other editors to easily see how many (and how severe) the user's previous vandalisticnesses (no comment on the Theodictionary, please) were. Let's try to get Twinkle running with you, then we can talk some more. Let me know when it's enabled for your account, just follow the instructions on WP:Twinkle. ---- Anyhow, cool. Theopolisme TALK 03:52, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Here's the dealio: I recently added Twinkle but I didn't use it in my last good patrol. I did it manually. I also 'borrowed' the version of BPositive since it contained nothing but the truth itself. TruPepitoM (talk) 04:01, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

So - have you ever used Twinkle before? If so, fantastic, we can continue - if not, please take a moment to read the guidelines/how to's listed on WP:Twinkle, and ask me if there's anything you don't understand. Theopolisme TALK 04:06, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

And I'm back. Just looking through your edits, seems you reported that IP user from Indian cuisine (link). (Teacher mode) You actually should have really given them a few more warnings, see #2 on the rules section of AIV. (That's right, I'm stalking your contribs!). Let me know if you need more clarification, that's what I'm here for. Theopolisme TALK 04:16, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
#1: I have used Twinkle earlier. I feel quite relaxed using it. Drop down menus and ready-to-use commands are my styles. #2: Such as? Introducing deliberate factual errors? Addition of unsourced or improperly cited material? If yes, I'll do it.
Fantastic about Twinkle - I gotta love not having to do anything.. :) Re:#2, I was talking about your report of that IP user, which was declined on WP:AIV - in the guidelines for reporting a user (above the list of reported users), they list, as number 2 on the requirements, "The user must be given sufficient recent warnings to stop." That's all I was talking about... Theopolisme TALK 04:42, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
I got it. I think I should add another section with the same name. I'm getting dizzy with all of the words, and/or because I'm not yet eating lunch, so far. TruPepitoM (talk) 10:20, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

More CVUA (to help prevent dizziness)

Ah, CLEAN! Off-topic: Lunch? How the time(zones) change... It's 12 in the morning here. :) Anyway, your next assignment: I shall post it in a second, actually. Theopolisme TALK 04:47, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

You're GMT -5 (GMT -4 DST), no? TruPepitoM (talk) 05:07, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Urgh, another edit conflict. Yes, that's where I am! Here in the dark of night... :) And now, for my previous message:
So, since it seems that you know how to use WP:Twinkle, I'm going to let you out on your own for now - with a little homework assignment. What, thought it would be all fun and games? Anyway, I'd love it if you revert at least 25 vandalistic edits using Twinkle. This way, I can see if you really truly grasp how to use the program, as well as see if you can comfortably ID vandalism. If you need somewhere to look for vandalism, I recommend patrolling the recent changes log (the link is to my custom set-up of the log that lets me see only what is relevant to vandalism-reverters). Just hit the diff button next to an edit, take a look at the change, and if the edit is vandalism, click the red [rollback (VANDAL)] text (that Twinkle displays) to automatically roll back to the last clean version. You can then, after Twinkle automatically opens the user in question's page, give the user a stock Twinkle "vandalism" warning. ..... Is this too complicated? If so, sorry... Tell me what parts you don't understand. And, if you do understand, let me know when you get those reverts done! :) Theopolisme TALK 05:01, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Here's my "I'm SO sorry": I have restored a version of Wu-Tang Clan by re-editing it. Well, I thought (so far) that it is vandalism. Or not. Yet. TruPepitoM (talk) 05:07, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Just took a look - yeah, while that is not vandalism, you can still revert it - I would just have had an edit summary of something like, "restored fan-like revisions to neutral version" or something like that. Then just leave a a Twinkle message on the user's talk page - {{uw-npov1}} in that case. :) Theopolisme TALK 05:14, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Here's another place you can look for recent edits. User contributions for new users is my current page of choice. Theopolisme TALK 05:17, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Anybody home? I'll be only open to WP until June 8/9. May be open on Fridays, or instead I'm gonna knock on your door, ring on your bell, tap on your window too. TruPepitoM (talk) 11:02, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey there, sorry we missed each other - I was on a majority of yesterday. Looking through your edits, I see that the ones that you've made with Twinkle look good, and you see to now have a better grasp who a vandal actually is. All good, all good! One comment - you might want to consider removing the warning templates from bottom of your talk page. These traditionally go where you had then before - on your userpage itself. /// But anyway, I'll just do a bit of edit stalking for now, and check your edits for a bit - just to make sure you're 100% comfortable using Twinkle to identify, restore, warn, and report. After that, I'm going to give you a wee quiz, and we can see where you are, and what the other things we need to focus on are. But just keep being a great student! :) Theopolisme TALK 09:48, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
About that template, that was quite a shortcut. But since it hurts my eyes, I dropped it instead. If you saw my available times, it makes me a visiting 'student' rather than 16/7 (drop the sleeping times) so I'd double time until this weekend. TruPepitoM (talk) 11:03, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Alright, no hurry. Take your time! Message me whenever you need anything, otherwise I'll just stalk your edits. Theopolisme TALK 11:11, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Ever nominated an article for speedy deletion? I just did. Just asking. TruPepitoM (talk) 07:32, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
Yep, I actually do a lot of CSD-related work. I looked at your recent contribs - it looks like you actually didn't nominate for WP:CSD, but instead WP:PROD. If you have a chance, do a bit of reading - it's good to know the difference between the two. Theopolisme TALK 11:25, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

I have recently stalked what's out of the contributions and I saw you want a second opinion about the user. Tit for tat, just this time only. :) TruPepitoM (talk) 07:32, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Haha, yep! That was my thinking as well. -- Back to the Academy: It seems like your most recent hundred or so edits have not be vandalism reverting - what gives, tired of it already? :) -- Honestly, it's fine, I don't really care - it's good to get out and about in the world of Wikipedia (that sounds so incredibly corny). Looked at your Twinkle reverts - so far, so good! As usual, let me know with questions... or when you're ready to try my crazy anti-vandal quiz. (evil grin) Theopolisme TALK 15:21, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
Question: If I was out 6 days and I only come here on Fridays, would it affect my enrollment? TruPepitoM (talk) 01:19, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Answer: I wouldn't ban you from the program or refuse to teach you or anything; no - of course not! It would just take longer for you to graduate from the CVUA... But honestly, the days you edit don't really matter - it's about the quality of your edits. -- On another note, when you get a chance, please take this quiz, in order for me to gauge your knowledge of counter vandalism as of yet. If you have any questions about it, let me know. :D Theopolisme TALK 01:32, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Your Quiz

Hey, just finished grading your quiz. Take a look: User:Theopolisme/TruPepitoM
If you see, I made a few comments - items marked with "ClockC" ask you to add or clarify something. If you'll just add answers to items marked with that symbol, that'd be great. All in all, nice work! Theopolisme TALK 04:24, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Your quiz grading has now been finalized, and you can take a look at User:Theopolisme/TruPepitoM to see the final results. :) Good job! -- Now, I think we can focus on working on getting you ready to request (and get) rollback.. sound good? (Just keep Twinkle-ing!) Theopolisme TALK 05:28, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
If you really mean "Twinkling", I'll guffaw. I saw it before you posted. Let's do it tomorrow, every Friday, or bust. TruPepitoM (talk) 07:30, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Alright. Tomorrow, to work! Theopolisme TALK 09:38, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

CVUA

Just some "housekeeping" to tackle another topic: Rollback. TruPepitoM (talk) 09:47, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Okay, don't worry about responding til Friday, but here's kind of an outline of goals.
  1. LOTS OF (correct) EDITS with Twinkle, as that is one of the things they look at when granting Rollback
  2. (straight from WP:Rollback, "contribution history that demonstrates an ability to distinguish well-intentioned edits with minor issues from unconstructive vandalism" - aka, need to get you reverting a bunch of edits that you are supposed to, while also using Rollback (AGF) to revert edits that just show someone who wrote to help, but made some sort of error or didn't follow Wiki policy.
And that's about it! So really, you're kind of on your own now - I've made sure that you know what to revert... now, you need to use that knowledge and get out and start some serious reverting! :D Theopolisme TALK 16:37, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Hey, just checking in... Friday went and passed, without you! :( -- No worries. Just letting you know I still exist. XD Theopolisme TALK 00:31, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
It's the time zone. I edited Friday here, Thursday there. No worries. I always have my 80's dance fever every Friday.
Ah, yes... the time zone. :P Which one are you stuck in? Theopolisme TALK 02:33, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Here's a hint. I'm living in a country that is one of the foreigners' favorite cold place in the tropics. Crazy but true.TruPepitoM (talk) 03:06, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
My prediction was correct, then - per your "lunch" comment a while back, I figured you must have been in that general area. Ah, I've never been ... but I've read the Wiki entry, now! Btw, seems like you recent edits seem to be mainly talk and your sporting/what have you interests... this is fine, but if our goal is rollback, just keep reverting vandals! :) Theopolisme TALK 04:05, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

I'll be inactive every weekdays and Sunday and open on weekends (Fri & Sat) and unexpected holidays. So I'd bulk up today on patrolling. TruPepitoM (talk) 08:23, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Cool. Leave me a message if you ever have any questions, otherwise, I'll just stalk your edits. Theopolisme TALK 22:09, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
BOO! I've been missing you ... and your edits! Just making sure nothing has come up that will prevent you from showing up on those Fridays/Saturdays. If you'll still be able to pop in then, ignore this message...but if something else HAS come up, let me know. :) Theopolisme TALK 19:15, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm only available during Fridays and Saturdays here (Thursday and Friday there). Just got my 707th edit today. I'll just wait until the next Wikilection/something else that's part of Wikipedia.
Ah, that makes sense! I forgot the time difference. (smacks head) Well, let me know when you get ~75 to ~100 vandalism reverts - then I would be all for you going in and reapplying for rollback. :D Theopolisme TALK 14:23, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Good Humor
Because you asked for it on your user page. :) //// no, honestly, you totally deserve this... For being HIL AR I OUS!!! :D Theopolisme TALK 10:11, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
Just being comedic. I'm much of a comedian, actually. :) TruPepitoM (talk) 14:39, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

CVUA Wk. 3

The heat is on. Yet I'm not yet patrolling. TruPepitoM (talk) 07:59, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

No pressure on you, but I honestly think if you make 75 more reverts (literally no more than an hour with Twinkle) you will have no trouble getting Rollback. Graduation is in the near future! Just knock it out. :) Theopolisme TALK 03:54, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Notice

Hi - you've been fairly unresponsive, and don't seem to be that interested in learning counter vandalism lately. Is something going on? If you aren't able to be a student for some reason for some period of time, please let me know... but if you just want to stop, please reconsider --> I just discussed with ItsZippy, an admin, your counter vandalism work and they think that after you make another 100 reverts, you'll be able to get Rollback. Thanks! Theopolisme TALK 21:39, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Believe it or not, I always am available every weekend. No less, no more.TruPepitoM (talk) 09:11, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
No, I understand that - it's just that on the weekends, you don't really do any counter vandal work - just article work. /// I'm just doing this for your sake, btw - I understand that you may like article creation, and that's fantastic - but you've already gone so far in the CVUA and it'd be a shame to stop now. :) Theopolisme TALK 15:43, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Graduate!

Hey, Tru - I see how the previous threads may have put stress on you, but -- on a completely different note -- while you don't have rollback (yet), I'm still.... (drumroll) Graduating you from the academy! You have a strong understanding of countervandalism, you scored incredibly well on your test, and, recent interaction aside, have received good reports from the community. So, I hereby graduate you from the CVUA - because, honestly, you know how to be a vandal fighter. Now, it's just up to you to be a vandal fighter. Congrats, and I wish you the best in all your future escapades! Please let me know if I can ever do anything else for you! Theopolisme TALK 22:16, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Your request for rollback

Hi TruPepitoM. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Calmer Waters 04:11, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
