Orphaned non-free media (Image:Unicefuk logo.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Unicefuk logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:27, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I again removed the copyrighted material from the article. There are certain procedures and documentation that need to be provided in order to use copyrighted materials. Please see WP:PERMISSIONS for more information. Thanks... ttonyb1 (talk) 15:14, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Unite test page[edit]

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. You need to know your user name is "not good"[edit]

That is, there are rules against user names that are the same as names of companies, bands, organizations - even the 'goodest'. Even more particularly there are rules about editing articles where you have a vested interest. It is very hard to have the correct balance in your writing/editing if the article is about your employer or you work with the group.

So... if you do enough editing somebody will eventually scream about the user name conflict (see WP:ORGNAME). Or they will scream about the conflict of interest (see WP:COI). Likely both at the same time, confusing you.

If you think about it, it is a reasonable concern (use of an organization's name or conflicts in purpose), even if _you_ have no ill-intentions. We have seen all the different ways Wikipedia can be misused, so the policies have become burdensome.

Anyway, you could do one or both of two things:

  • ask to change to a new user name (one unique to 'you' like the first policy mentions)
  • explicitly "declare their interests" on your user page, like the second guideline mentions

Actually, stating your interests and perhaps your qualifications to know about a subject could be a good thing, as people might then ask you to clarify questions. (Of course, references to publications or official websites are always preferred, but you might know where/how to get those).

I hope I don't upset you. I just hate it when the first time someone finds out about a possible problem is when the screams/threats/riots arrive. :-) Shenme (talk) 07:14, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

February 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. You may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the policy to not edit in a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.

File permission problem with File:Gary UNICEF.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Gary UNICEF.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fred the Oyster (talk) 16:57, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This account, Lindsey Hills, has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia, because your username does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

Please choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. However, do not create a new account if you wish to credit your existing contributions to a new name through a username change. To request a username change:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to edit this talk page even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a list of names that have already been taken. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Fences&Windows 16:12, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock-un|Lindsey Hills}}

If you are unblocked, you would still be highly discouraged from editing/creating the articles mentioned above. What other topics would you be editing? TNXMan 19:29, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Allowing username change to Lindsey Hills (talk · contribs). Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking.

Request handled by:MuZemike

Unblocking administrator: Please check for active autoblocks on this user after accepting the unblock request.

Also, as TnXman said above, you do have a conflict of interest, so whatever you edit with regards to UNICEF may not be neutral in tone. It's recommended that you stick to those articles' discussion pages and recommend changes through requests there. Regards, –MuZemike 19:50, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your advice. I will stick to the discussion pages in future.

A tag has been placed on File:YcwSouthAfricanew.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. nn123645 (talk) 03:16, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
