Recent Unix program edits[edit]

Are you really sure adding a See also to List of Unix programs is the best way to go? Categories are usually used for that purpose. --maru (talk) contribs 19:21, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking the same thing, after seeing some pages with categories. I don't know if there is a category for Unix Programs yet, but I will check it out. Thanks for the tip. --Unixguy 11:00, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, there sure is - it is Category:Unix software. I will start making the updates. --Unixguy
Well, I guess all's well that ends well. Too bad about the extra work, but you did learn something. --maru (talk) contribs 20:12, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

file colors by type[edit]

The mere fact that GNU ls happens to look at a file's filename extension to determine the file's type, as well as its Unix file type, if it's coloring its output, and that file looks at the file contents, in addition to the Unix file type, to determine the file's type, does not mean that ls is at all relevant to file. Konqueror also looks at a file's contents to determine its type; does it also belong on the file page? Guy Harris 17:34, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, Unixguy, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. POWER template[edit]

Great initiative! However.. the "POWER architecture" is obsolete, it's all "Power Architecture" these days. I took the liberty to make a suggestion to a new template to reflect this: Henriok/Template:Power Architecture -- Henriok 22:22, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This looks excellent! I will create the new Power Architecture template from your new version, and update the articles. --Unixguy 15:49, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great! I liked the expanded version better, but I understand why you condensed it. -- Henriok 20:02, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with the logo is that Wikipedia's policy prohibits logos in templates. Stupid, but that's the rules. -- Henriok (talk) 20:44, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for reverting your edits. As the reversion was some time ago, I don't remember exactly why I reverted your edits. However, after reviewing your edit, I couldn't find any real reason to remove the table, so I restored it. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Ninja! 16:13, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TCP Changes[edit]

Thanks for the clarifications, much better. I didn't read the section carefully enough, I was focussing on the message format diagram because of the question about flags on the talk page - later it hit me that the last two diagrams were for checksums. I made some minor changes to the section headers for the checksums, if you'd like to check and see if they're clear. I'm a newbie and still learning - obviously, my first lesson is "read carefully before talking" (or RTFM lol). Please let me know if I'm out of line. Ngriffeth 12:57, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ICMP needs your help[edit]

Dear Unixguy, I can tell by your work at TCP that you know what you're doing. May I ask you to take a look at ICMP, which has a similar section? It reads, in part,

Total Length
Total Length and the first data byte is the sequence number plus 1. Otherwise if the SYN flag is not present

Clearly this is fragmented and incoherent, but I don't yet have the expertise to fix it. Could you? Thank you, -- JEBrown87544 15:34, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Aix logo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Aix logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:30, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JFS[edit]

Your original edit I revert stated "JFS was designed for 32 bit systems. JFS2 was designed for 64 bit systems." Does that make sense to you? @Unixguy Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 21:47, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it does. JFS aka JFS1 is not the same as JFS(2). So I edited for more clarity in the section below, and put those edits back. Did you see the JFS is not JFS2 or miss that part?Unixguy (talk) 22:00, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
