I need assistance in checking whether I have adequately overcome the copyright issue - see below - speedy deletion!.

I have heavily edited the page in an attempt to make it accurate but More "in my own words"

I could also do with some tips re using some photos which I have but, given they were taken in the late 1800s, I did not take.

Speedy deletion nomination of Sir John McIntyre[edit]

A tag has been placed on Sir John McIntyre requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your request for help with copyright[edit]

Hello Westedit, I came to your page after you edited Victorian Scottish Regiment. Thanks for your input. I have tweaked it slightly (just the citation style as there was already a namedref to be used), but otherwise it was good info. Cheers. Anyway, I think I can help you with your photos to some extent. If the photos were taken in the 1800s they should be okay to upload to Wikipedia, using the correct tags. The correct licencing tag to use is {{PD-Australia}} (I'm assuming they were taken in Australia), if it was UK then {{PD-BritishGov}}. Some others can be found at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/All. For some practical examples take a look at the images on 32nd Battalion (Australia) for Australian images and Michael Allmand for a UK image. Be aware the UK tag is only for UK government photos and I don't know about non government but you might be able to find it in the General section on the WP: Image copyright tags page. A couple of tips for young players[edit]

Hi again, as you are relatively new to wikipedia, if you've got any questions don't be afraid to ask me or someone else. I'm not a guru and have only been on here for six months, but I am happy to try to help you if you have any queries. Just drop a line on my talk page and I will respond. Be aware that if you leave a message on my talk page I will respond there, so you need to add it to your 'watchlist' after you've left a message.

Also a couple of things to be wary of, always make sure you leave an edit summary after carrying out an edit. If you don't sometimes it makes people suspicious about your intentions, even if they are well meaning. If you fixed a typo, just say 'typo' in the edit summary. If you rewrote a section, say 'rewrote section to improve narrative flow' or something like that. Just a few examples. Also, be careful with the 'minor edit' tag. Sometimes what you think is minor, is not minor to someone else and over using it can put some users offside.

Also, here is a link to a tool you might find interesting. It is a breakdown of all your edits. Your edit counter. You can just cut and past the link and put it on your User page if or when you come to make it.

Anyway, I hope you decide to become a regular contributor. We need more. I am currently a member of the Military History and Cricket projects, but there are projects for many subjects.
