April 9[edit]

Does the German press report crimes of refugees?[edit]

Did it report this latest one? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4395310/Boyfriend-forced-watch-refugee-rapes-girlfriend.html 2.102.184.154 (talk) 19:47, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure they report all significant crimes, but they may not identify which perps are refugees, depending on their policies, as refugees committing the same proportion of crimes as the native population could easily be spun as refugees all being criminals, with corresponding anti-refugee riots. (EC) Is there a specific reason why you think German press wouldn’t report? Rgds  hugarheimur 19:56, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering if things had changed since the Cologne attacks. I see from your link that several websites have reported it, but has it been reported by pretty much all media outlets? If it happened in the UK, for example, it would be. 2.102.184.154 (talk) 20:04, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The German press is no more or less likely to report on this sort of crime when the suspect is a refugee than when he's a German citizen, or anyone else for that matter. This incident isn't listed at [1] as of 23:10 CEST on 2017-04-09, but that's because serious (nonsensationalist) nationwide news sites don't tend to report on this sort of thing at all, focusing instead on politics. It will be reported on (1) by the local press in the area where it happened, and (2) by tabloids nationwide – but even then, they'd report on it regardless of whether the suspect was a refugee or not. I know that some people in Germany suspect the press of deliberately suppressing stories about crimes committed by refugees in order to avoid spurring antirefugee sentiment, but I've never seen convincing evidence that it actually happens. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 21:14, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The OP shows signs of being a conspiracy theorist. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 21:53, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The Daily Mail is not a valid source for news, they are well known for inventing 'news'. Fgf10 (talk) 21:43, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Citation needed. Not that I consider them anything close to a reliable source, but you're claimed outright invention and that's another matter. --76.71.6.254 (talk) 19:31, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This rape was reported in all the German papers, as I can see from a Google search. The most recent accounts say that the perpetrator has been arrested and positively identified from DNA evidence. He is a Ghanaian man. This information is from the local police. "Refugee" is only in the English language press, specifically the Sun, the Mail and the blog of Milo Yiannopoulos. I suspect it is a guess. There are Ghanaian refugees in Germany. Itsmejudith (talk) 22:20, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If there's any substance to the original question, it probably refers to this story... - AnonMoos (talk) 00:05, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • No, such things are just too local to make it to Das Erste or ZDF. And it's indifferent who the perpetrator was. You might have a better chance finding sports results and irrelevant statistics from studies than personal matters. --94.217.190.176 (talk) 18:58, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
