Welcome to Wikipedia[edit]

I hope you enjoy your time editing here, don't worry too much about all the style guidelines - some can take a while to learn, the important part is content - neutral point of view and verifiabilty. I see a large number of new articles intended to be created during the course, which is great - as wikipedia grows it becomes increasingly hard to find topics not already covered, any new ones add greatly to the comprehensiveness of the encyclopedia!

To help you out when you get to adding references there is a great tool we use at Wikiproject Medicine - diberris citation tool. This allows one to enter a PubMed id, isbn or url to generate the text to be copy/pasted for a complete reference. Have saved me hours if not days! Good luck and we look forward to your contributions! Lee∴V (talkcontribs) 12:56, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quick points[edit]

I glanced at a handful of the articles today. I know most of these are just getting started, but it looks like you're on the right track. Here's a few points for polishing them up:

  • Help:List shows how to make bulleted lists. Just start your line with an asterisk (*) and don't leave any blank lines between items (to help our blind users).
  • If you're going to provide a link to YouTube, don't just leave http://youtube.com/long-messy-stuff bare in the article. Wrap it up in single square brackets with a title, and label the necessary software at the end, like this: [http://youtube.com/long-messy-stuff Video demonstration of whatever] ([[Flash video]]) It will look more professional and be more attractive to the reader, like this:
  • If you've got a weird dotted-line box in the middle of your page, it means that you accidentally started a line with an empty space.
  • If you're using WP:Inline citations in the WP:Footnotes style (with <ref> tags, rather than WP:Parenthetical references or some other system), then it's handy to name the references for re-use, so you don't have to clutter up the page with copies of the same thing over and over again. See WP:REFNAME, or look at what User:Jwil224 did.

Good luck, and remember that you can always leave a note at what WT:MED if you need any help. WhatamIdoing (talk) 04:49, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Note on student edits[edit]

Just a note here to say that I've gone through the contributions of all the student editors who participated in this class. Only a couple of students made edits outside of the course page and their own user spaces. One student created articles for Inspiration and expiration breathing test, Load and shift test for the shoulder, and Wrinkle test. These concerned me as they were sports medicine-related and involved clinical evaluation. As how-to articles, they may not fall within the scope of Wikipedia, so I've proposed that they be deleted.
