Xinbu Island (新埠岛) is located adjacent to Haidian Island in Haikou, Hainan, China.[1]

The island, located at the mouth of the Nandu River has a population of approximately 4,000 people.[2]

Almost the entire island is populated, and developed in a similar way to suburban Haikou. There are dozens of small temples located within this residential areas. A large strip along the western part has been developed into luxury homes. The northern part of the island is undergoing land reclamation. The entire northern coast is composed of sand and earth, with a newly built seawall installed to prevent erosion. Adjacent to this, to the south, are dozens of fish and shrimp farms.

A small harbour on the east coast.

Plans to develop a new yacht port on the island are underway.[3]

Access

There are three bridges that connect the island to the rest of Hainan:

  • The Xinbu Bridge links with Haidian East 5th Road (海甸五东路) on Haidian Island.[4]
  • Haikou New East Bridge is a bridge that crosses the Nandu River. It connects Xinbu Island at its eastern shore to the rest of the province.
  • A small bridge, the oldest and smallest of the three, connects the main part of Haikou City at its northeasternmost point with Xinbu Island close to its southern tip.

There is a new, east-west road that cuts across the entire island. This road is a prominent feature of the island, and connects directly to the Xinbu Bridge at the west and Haikou New East Bridge at the east. It allows traffic to go from Haidian Island, through Xinbu Island, and over the Nandu River to the rest of the province in a nearly straight line via this wide, main road.
