Ziplocal is a company which provides local search information across the United States.

[edit] History

Ziplocal was first created when Montreal-based Zip411.net was acquired by Redcity Search Company (also known as redCity and RedToronto) in 2008[1] a few years after Zip411 (under its former name of Tamec, Inc.) pleaded guilty in a Montreal court to deceptive telemarketing and misleading advertising charges under the Competition Act, stemming from complaints filed from February 1997 to August 2001.[2] Ziplocal was headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia before it ceased trading in 2009 and sold its assets to Canpages.[3]

In Jan 2010, Utah-based Phone Directories Company (PDC) entered into an agreement with Canpages and rebranded itself as Ziplocal.[4] In March 2010, Olivier Vincent (then CEO of Canpages) orchestrated the sale of Canpages (including Ziplocal's assets) to Yellow Pages Group (YPG).[5] YPG then traded its US division (YPG Directories, LLC.) to Ziplocal, LP [6] in exchange for an "equity-to-equity swap"..[7] YPG now owns 35% of Ziplocal.[8] Olivier Vincent then left his position as CEO of Canpages and became CEO and President of the Board of Directors of Ziplocal.

Ziplocal's website states that its corporate office is in the same location that it was when it was PDC, the companies executive offices are located in Vancouver.

Olivier Vincent is no longer the CEO of Ziplocal and so his team members which includes Dariush the CTO. Mike Anderson who was working with Canpages earlier is now the CEO of Ziplocal. This change in the management happened on July 15th 2011.
