Chaikasem Nitisiri is a Thai politician. He was the Minister of Justice in the cabinets of Shinawatra and Boonsongpaisan from 2013 until his dismissal in the 2014 coup d'état.[1] He is a Pheu Thai member and was one of the 2019 and 2023 Prime Ministerial candidates.[2]

On 14 August 2024 prime minister Srettha Thavisin was removed by the Constitutional Court, therefore parties must decide who they will nominate as the next prime minister based on the list of candidates that was submitted in 2023, with reports indicating that Nitisiri is being considered by Pheu Thai.[2]

Life, Education, and Early Career

Chaikasem was born on 26th August 1948. He was educated at Assumption College and then Triam Udom Suksa School. He received his bachelor’s degree with second class honours from faculty of political science, Chulalongkorn University. With the government’s scholarship, he continued his studies at Columbia University and received a master’s degree in laws (LL.M.). Chikasem was also admitted to the bar by the Thai Bar Association and started his career as assistant public prosecutor. He did steadily thrive in his legal career path until his retirement as the Attorney General of Thailand and also adjunct professor to the faculty of law, Chulalongkorn University.[3][4]
