He was not accepted into the Dover Baptist Association until 1793, and his church was illegal and secret during much of his courageous and admirable life. He is one of many early Black preachers who served congregations without mainline credentials. Haynes was openly ordained in 1785 by Congregationalists to an early church in Torrington, CT, well established when Haynes arrived. undo Tag: Manual revert
