'''Roger Gurley''' is considered by many as a national hero in saint vincent. Roger Gurley is a football player and has played various positions throughout his career, including; goalkeeper, centre back, left wing and holding midfield. Roger played number 7 for saint vincent. however, unforftunately Roger's career was cut short after recieving four caps for his county, as he was forced into an early retirement by injuy. Roger Gurley was considered the next 'caribbean king' and some have even nick-named him the 'Caribbean Pele' and 'Saint Roger'. Roger then founded his own football team in 1979. Although Roger's footballing career did not last a great deal of time, he put his great knowledge of the game to great use. Roger currently coaches 'Vincy Heat' Saint Vincent's football team. In Feburary, 2008 Roger was even temporarily left to manage Saint Vincent Football team. Roger also took up a career as a pro referee and has since refereed in numerous games, including the semi-final of the caribbean cup in 2001 and world cup qualifying matches for 2002 and 2006. Not only is Roger Gurley an amazing referee but he is also one of, if not the, finest coach the Caribbean has to offer. Roger has trained youths at the Liverpool Football Club Soccer School (2010), where he noticed 5 young talents ( Rob Wall, Harry Taylor, Chris Hurtley, Ashley Garner and Jordan Newell). Roger is taking the training techniques he learnt in Liverpool back to Saint vincent to run a Liverpool Football Club Soccer School there in the Caribbean. Not only is Roger Gurley an exeptional player, fantastic coach, amazing referee and a great manager but he is also a truly amazing person. Everyone who has ever met Roger has loved him.
