Gay slang
"Fruit" or "Fruit cake" is a slang phrase that has often been used as a slang term for gays. Usually as a negative term against gay men but increasingly as an insider's term of endearment within the GLBT community. Many modern pop culture references within the gay nightlife like "Fruit Machine" and "Fruit Packers" have been appropriated for the reclaiming of language.
"Fruit fly" is a similar term applied to "fag hags," which are usually straight women who befriend and socialize with gay men - often in gay bars.
