Frances Lynn is an English journalist and author.
Early life
Born in St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington in London, Lynn was educated at Malvern Girls' College.
Career
In 1977, Lynn started her journalistic career when she became the film editor and "bitch" gossip columnist for the defunct Ritz Newspaper published by David Bailey (photographer). After her first column appeared in the magazine's second issue, Barry Fantoni wrote: "Frances Lynn (Franny to the few friends she has left) wins my accolades as the bitchiest gossip writer in town" in the defunct Evening News. Lynn was also known for her candid Ritz Newspaper interviews with celebrities including Nigel Dempster (Issue 3), Sammy Davis, Jr. (Issue 4), Jerry Hall, (Issue 4), Tony Curtis (Issue 8), Terence Stamp (Issue No. 23), Peter Bogdanovich (Issue 31), Anthony Perkins ( Issue 39), Ben Gazzara (Issue 77), John Hurt, (Issue 78), Annie Leibovitz (Issue No. 78) Tom Hanks (Issue 84), Jackie Collins (Issue 91), Robin Williams (Issue 93), Cary Grant (issue No. 95), Raquel Welch (Issue No. 95), Sally Field. After Nigel Dempster proposed her for the National Union of Journalists in 1981, she became a freelance journalist, working on the Evening Standard's The Londoner's Diary on Fleet Street, and for glossy magazines including Woman's Journal, 19, Harpers and Queen and Tatler. In the early 2000's, she wrote a regular golf column for Saga, the UK's top selling subscriber magazine. "Saga" sent her on a Caribbean cruise on the Saga Rose ship where she gave lectures.
The 1988—CRITICS POLL, KOBAL website shows that Lynn's favourite Top Ten film list was headed by Night of the Living Dead in "John Kobal Presents the Top 100 Movies" book. Lynn wrote Future Shock stories for 2000 AD. She is a member of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain and in 2006, her two novels: Crushed and Frantic were both published by Eiworth Publishing.
