We are the Mediation cabal, or maybe we're not, you never know, perhaps there is no such thing. You never know with cabals now, do you?

Even so, a lot of people who do informal mediation happen to have this page on their watchlists. The Mediation Cabal is intended to be the alpha implementation of the Wikipedia:Mediation (2005) informal mediation proposal.

If you just wonder if the person you're talking to is sane, if things are starting to get hot but haven't yet exploded, you know, small stuff you'd just like some advice on before it blossoms into actual trouble (hopefully!) , drop a note here, and a friendly mediator-ish person will likely stop by to help!

(Tip: You're probably posting here to try and get someone to Not Be Angry At You. It helps to try to put things in as neutral terms as possible here, and make it possible to contact you by e-mail or irc, that way the other person is less likely to feel hurt. :-) )

Mediation Requests

RFC

Who's involved?: User:Blu Aardvark, User:Gabrielsimon and User:Elvenscout742 have a problem with User:DreamGuy.

What's going on?: The triad created an RFC (Wikipedia:Requests for comment/DreamGuy) which didn't help. Then they created a second RFC (Wikipedia:Requests for comment/DreamGuy-2). For the second, they didn't bother notifying DreamGuy on grounds that he wouldn't listen anyway. The second got an outsider response that it was not quite as grounded as the triad said, and that both parties could use a healthy dose of WP:CIV. The second RFC was deleted by me because it wasn't certified; the triad wants to reconstruct it. A minor revert war started on whether this page should be listed on RFC or not.; As the outsider view stated, "As I see it, there's a long-running edit war between DreamGuy and a number of other editors. I don't know who's right or wrong here. I see nothing particularly serious in the way of personal attacks by DreamGuy, particularly nothing worthy of a permanent ban. I think everyone involved needs to re-read the NPOV and no personal attacks policies."

What would you like to change about that?: Both sides should stop badgering one another and cooperate and be happy in a meadow with flowers and lemonade and - well, you get the point.

What's going on?: An apparently well-meaning n00b, she likes to add references to her own fanfiction to articles, and likes to create dozens of articles about minor characters from tv shows, then expand them with useless trivia in an attempt to avoid merging a la WP:FICT. Despite several comments by several people on her talk page, she shows no sign of slowing down on any fronts. Between all the reverting of her edits I've been doing and all the merging I'm going to need to do, I'm almost to the point of tearing my hair out. I've been unable to do any work of my own, and she simply refuses to see any point of view except her own (once commenting that an article should not be deleted because, "I wrote it myself").

What would you like to change about that?: I have no quarrel with the user personally, just her edits. User is clearly well meaning, would just like her to acknowledge wikipedia's policies and community consensus as well as WP:FICT, and understand what kind of material belongs in an article (and what article things belong in). Mainly, the thing that needs to happen first and foremost is there needs to be SOME sort of acknowledgement on her part that there ARE issues, instead of her just continuing to do as she pleases.
