This article concerns the specific language of the former provinces Saintonge, d'Aunis and Angoumois still present in Charente, Charente-Maritime, in the south of Deux-Sèvres, the south of Vendée and north of the Gironde.
There are words common to both Charentes, a linguistic unity, but many variations either term pronunciation.
The Saintongeais significantly influenced the Québécois, the Acadian and Cajun.

Presentation

We call Saintongeais (patouê saintonjhouê, jhabrail) Patois Charentais spoken in the former provinces d'Aunis, Saintonge and Angoumois.
Its area covers the entire department of Charente-Maritime, west and the center of the department of Charente, the northern department of Gironde Gabaye with his country and its enclaves around Saintonge, Monségur; is also concerned that part aunisienne (south Vendée) and Saintongeaise (south Deux-Sèvres) Marais Poitevin.
