Anuj Sharma(Hindi: अनुज शर्मा) (born 6 March 1976 in Rehan, Kangra, India) was number 3 in Indian Idol 2, the Indian version of Pop Idol. He had released more than 30 audio & 8 video albums in Himachali Folk songs. He had done more than 100 shows & rewarded by number of himachali organizations after Indian Idol 2 exit. He is working with Music Directors Gorub Dayal & Saiwal for his first album 'KHAB' on the national level.

Early life

Anuj Sharma was born in Rehan, a small town of Kangra District, Himachal Pradesh . He attended 'Government Senior Secondary School Rehan' for his primary & secondary education. His father is a retired teacher, his mother a housewife, and elder brother an engineer working in the UK & younger sister resides in Chandigarh. Anuj’s brother is the only reason for Anuj is in the music profession. After class 12, it is his brother who forced him to take up music for further studies. Anuj started singing at young age but he got the interest & motivation paid when joined Wajir Ram Sing Government College Dehri as Music Student & won the best singer award in the inter college competition of HP University at Govt College Dharamsala. He still remember the lines ‘KUCH DOOR HAMARE SATH CHALO HAM APNI KAHANI KEH DENGE; TUM SAMAJ NA SAKE JO ANKHO SE BO BAAT JUBANI KEH DENGE’ & feels that the success started there. He recorded few folk’s albums on T-Series during bachelor study, which gave him identity in Himachal Pradesh. He finished his Bachelor & Master of Music from HP University Shimla& Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar respectively. He also did another Master in Music & Diploma as Music Recordist from 'Prachin Kala Kendra' Chandigarh & 'Media Mates' Delhi respectively after his university studies.(He was named after a 12 year old boy who is from Canada and currently lives in the U.S)

Career

Anuj started learning Music in college when he joined MUSIC as main course in his Bachelor. His first folk album during his study ‘RAT PAYEE GUME DE NAALE’ was with T-series which was a major HIT in (1995). He released more than 10 to 20 albums within next 3 to 5 years. He was attached to All India Radio Shimla also where he sang number of times. After completion his Master in 2000, he worked as Music Lecturer for more than 3 years in 'Wajir Ram Singh Govt College Dehri', not satisfied with teaching he left the job & move to 'Delhi' where he did diploma in Music Recording from Media Mates. After finishing his diploma he setup his own Music Studio & start arranging music for some himachali songs. He sang for first Himachali Feature Film (Fulumu Ranju) as well. He was interviewed during his music recording course on Radiocity 91 FM, where show his talent of remixing the songs. The song is available on the netChandan Sa Badan. He is due to release an album (Hindi + Punjabi) in the near future. There was a continue push from family & other friends to make big, he appeared in Indian IdolOfficial Indian Idol competition (a television singing talent competition similar to POP Idol & American Idol). He shot to fame when he reached last 28 in the competition & sing "Tuje Dil Main Basa to Loon par Payar Jaroori Hai" in the Piano Round to reach last 12. Unfortunately he was out due to biased public voting. Judges brought him back & he moved up to number 3 this time before exit. For last one & half the year after Indian Idol exit, Anuj has become icon for Himachalis. He had done more than 100 shows in different parts of India.

Personal life

Anuj lives in Delhi with his wife & parents. He married his girlfriend Vanita in Hoshiyarpur Punjab on May 5, 2006. Singing overlaps all his interests, he is a good cricket player (fast bowler), he enjoys reading cartoon books, is dedicated to his fitness routine, and loves to travel. He is a very spiritual.
