There are approximately 3.8 million people in Lebanon. However, 1 million are foreign workers[8] and 400, 000 are Palestinian refugees.

Identity

Phoenicianism

More information: Phoenicianism

Recently, many Lebanese see themselves as ethnically Phoenician, rather than Arab. They argue that Arabization was caused by speaking of the Arabic language and conversion to Islam rather than any actual ethnic change, and thus the Arabs of Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, Tunisia, Iraq, etc. are all different peoples.[9]

Arabism

More information: Pan-Arabism, Phoenicianism#Criticism_of_Phoenicianism

Many disagree with Phoenicianism, and say that it disregards the Lebanese Arab heritage. Most Lebanese see themselves as Arabs, and Lebanon is part of the Arab League.

Diaspora

In the Lebanese diaspora, the Lebanese are often referred to as just “Lebanese” or “Lebs” and are not always seen as Arabs (although this is also true for other Arabic-speaking groups).there is about 12 million people of lebanese descent in brazil and over 3 million in the usa.Ethnic lebanese in the us are about 600,000 and there are smaller communities in latin america, west and south africa the carrabiean, canada and europe especially france
