The station is connected in the underground with a small shopping and business building which is a good concept. Subway stations shouldn’t be just put underground without any connection to public buildings.

And this fact starts to show that the city centre is really showing its image: the more the subway goes central, the more it is interconnected in the underground. The Tenjin subway station is nice example which is connected to an underground shopping street of 600m that lies under a big lane. Also, to move from one line to another, the passengers need to pass this commercial area which benefits the commerce.

But still, at this station (Chiyokuchi Chiguchi), the flow of people is too low to have an active commerce.
So, in stead of providing several subway stations and a railway station that are in a radius of 500 m of each other, there could be more effort put in relocating to one big subway station. This makes the flow of people larger so commerce and business can use this advantage. The area around the removed subway station can be used as a green area in stead of densify with architecture. The sub centre as a new urban form with a large density benefits the area. Together with green space makes this story very enjoyable to live in.
This relocation of the transport lines and their station of the eastern ward will be discussed in the conclusion of this dissertation.

Another topic of discussion is -like at Hakata- the homeless. The Higashi park is again a refuge for people who don’t have a place to live.

Just outside the subway station, blue tents appear between the blossoming cherry trees. If the government keeps on avoiding this problem, the beauty of the Japanese cities will be flooded with blue tents.

Cheap solutions can be found to provide shelter for the homeless and to make the city more enjoyable and nice.
