The Severin Sisters are an American Roots band consisting of Amy Severin and Heidi Severin (born September 25, 1983), twin sisters from Oregon. They have participated in musical festivals and competitions on the state and national levels, ranking highly in several.
Amy wrote her first song ("Song of Gold") at the age of 8 and performed it for her entire student body a few weeks later. Hearing the applause made her realize what a passion she had for entertaining.[citation needed] Her mother arranged for weekly lessons in music theory, composition, guitar, and banjo; meanwhile, her sister Heidi was learning mandolin. Before long[clarification needed] they had co-written enough music for a thirty-minute performance.
At age 14, Amy placed second in the Oregon State Banjo Championship. In 2002, she placed 10th in the National Banjo Competition held in Winfield, Kansas.
In 2000, the duo recorded their first album, "Too Many Miles." The following year they recorded "Let's Talk." Their most recent album was released in 2003 and is titled "Carefree Times." "Carefree Times" was re-released with new graphics June 2007.
Both girls currently attend Oregon State University.[citation needed]
