Lynn Forester de Rothschild (b. July 2, 1954 in New Jersey, United States)[1] is the Chief Executive Officer of E.L. Rothschild, a holding company she owns with her husband Sir Evelyn Robert de Rothschild of the Rothschild family.[1] The company manages investments in the British business magazine The Economist and various enterprises in India.[2] By virtue of her marriage to a gentleman who has been knighted with the title of honor "Sir", she is entitled to be called "Lady".

Career

Raised in Oradell, New Jersey,[3] Forester is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Pomona College and Columbia University Law School, and was at one time a lawyer at the Simpson Thacher & Bartlett law firm.[2][4] As a telecommunication entrepreneur she owned a Latin American cell-phone company located in Puerto Rico, and claims to be the first person to apply for wireless broadband licenses in the United States. After being granted licenses in major American cities for free, she sold them at a premium.[2] In 1998, Forester founded the Luxembourg-based wireless broadband venture FirstMark Communications Europe,[5] which boasted on its Board of Directors Nathan Myhrvold of Microsoft, Washington D.C. power broker Vernon Jordan and Henry Kissinger.[6] Although the company raised $1 billion in start-up funding,[5] it was not a success, and Forester sold it in June 2000.[2]

Forester is also on the Board of Directors of Estée Lauder Companies.[2]

Personal life

Forester's first marriage, to Alexander Hartley Platt, took place at Brick Presbyterian Church on May 20, 1978.[7] Her second husband was [8] Andrew Stein, a New York politician who wasManhattan Borough President at the time. They wed on March 12, 1983,[4] and had two children together, Ben and Jake. They were divorced in 1993. [9] Forester was introduced to Rothschild by Henry Kissinger at the 1998 Bilderberg Group conference in Scotland,[10] and they married on November 30, 2000 in London, England.[1] She is his third wife.

Politics

Forester was a major fund raiser for Hillary Rodham Clinton's 2008 Presidential bid and has received attention for endorsing John McCain for President. She is stepping down as a member of the Democratic National Committee platform committee.[11]
