I’m new here, still I don’t know about details, but I want you to evaluate both edits of the article Religion In Egypt, while checking all reference, and then decide which edit must be in an encyclopedia, the original one was neutral and showing all facts, the Troy 07 one is hiding facts and giving wrong figures using very old article which are contradicted by new articles from the same publisher, I joined as I want to fix and removing evil ideas from the encyclopedia --[[User:Great Sphinx|Great Sphinx]] ([[User talk:Great Sphinx|talk]]) 19:32, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Clock frozen

I have managed to move the clock to the right side of my userpage, however, the clock does not change, unless the page is modified, and the clock only shows the time that the page was last modified, not the curent time. Can you fix this? -- IRP 01:08, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The clock will not auto-update; to have it display the most recent time available, one must purge the page cache. (The link for purging the page User:IRP is this one.)
This feature (the inability to have a clock self-update without refreshing) is a hinderance on all Wikipedia pages; most editors adapt such features as clocks in the user space by adding a purge link inside of the clock. You may wish to look into doing this; I can assist, if you are having trouble with the code.

Can you use a "purgebot" to automatically purge the page cache? -- IRP 17:59, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Nope, unfortunately, I couldn't. I have no time to code a full bot, and additionally, I don't think it would be a worthwhile venture. The project doesn't really need one; we cope well enough with the purge function. Anthøny 18:03, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I do not, nope. Indeed, I know of no utility or method that can be used to skirt around the purge system, other than simply including a link to purge the page cache. In all honesty, one's time is best spent improving the encyclopedia and its articles, rather than perfecting a user page; I for one would be more inclined to look at my computer interface clock—or the clock that I have displayed at the top of my Wikipedia user bar—rather than on a user's page. Perhaps the clock is best as it currently is? Anthøny 18:08, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • That seems a good solution, yes. Back to article-writing we both go, then!
    Anthøny 18:17, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • For the record, the reason a "purge bot" will never work is that the cache is being purged for each user; when you click a "purge" link, you're purging your browser's cache, and unless everyone else is using your computer (which would get quite crowded, not to mention wreak havoc on CU reports), they won't see the update the same way as you. With respect, whether you are correct or incorrect in the argument in question is somewhat immaterial; how you communicate your views is what is important. In my opinion, you are communicating those views in a disruptive manner; that is what I am attempting to remedy here. To speak frankly, there are two options: you can chose to reform your own behaviour; or, your account can be blocked to prevent further disruption through your continued presence. It's really your call; I will assist you insofar as I am able, but the ball is ultimately in your court. You need to make a concious effort to contribute in a less "trollish" manner.
Regarding your response, above: what do you mean by "an official person"?
