The 8310, like all handsets of the 8000 series, incorporated remarkably high specification compared to competing handsets at the time. Retailing at over £400, the 8310 was a truly premium handset. The inclusion of an FM Radio became a highly desirable feature, ensuring mainstream success especially among commuters and students. Indeed, Nokia inspired other manufacturers such as [[Sony Ericsson]] to incorporate this feature into their handsets. The 8310 managed to straddle the line between business handset and fashion statement; its small dimensions and attractive styling were cutting edge at time of release. Extensive talktime and standbytime, coupled with infrared and [[GPRS]] modem connectivity made it just as desirable for the business customer. At a time when colour screens were tapping into the mobile phone market, however, the 8310 was distinctly backward with its utilisation of a monochrome display.

The 8310 was a premium mobile phone manufactured by Nokia between 2001 and 2002. Belonging to the 8000 series, the handset was a member of Nokia's flagship premium 'candybar' variety, and retailed for a price in excess of £400 on launch. Incorporating Nokia's trademark menu system and GUI, the handset was easy to operate, yet contained advanced premium features not normally found on handsets of the time, such as Infrared, a fully functional calendar and an FM Radio.
